BAD Sub-Committees

BAD Sub-Committees
The BAD has a number of sub-committees to support the running of the organisation and to contribute to workstreams. We rely on volunteers from the membership, patients, and other experts to contribute to these sub-committees, for which we are very grateful. New sub-committee roles are advertised on our website and through member communications.
Conference & Events Sub-Committee
The remit of this committee, which meets on a quarterly basis, is to oversee all events and meetings organized by the Conference & Events Services Department of the British Association of Dermatologists.

Dermatology Council for Scotland
The role of the Dermatology Council for Scotland is to advise members of the BAD executive committee on dermatological issues in Scotland. It also advises Scottish Health Service institutions on behalf of the British Association of Dermatologists.

Dermatology Council for Wales
The role of the Dermatology Council for Wales is to promote excellence in Dermatology Services in Wales. The Council also:
- Takes a proactive view seeking out potential future problem areas
- Looks ahead for opportunities for service development
- Discusses training issues relating to SAS’s doctors, Specialist Nursing services (where these interplay with service provision)
- Covers training issues in relation to the SPR training programme where these interact with service provision and facilities
- Provides peer support for members

Education Sub-Committee
The Education Sub-Committee supports the work of the British College of Dermatology (BCD). Our goal is to support the development of a comprehensive, highly skilled dermatology workforce to improve overall patient care in dermatology. This workforce includes dermatologists, GPs, medical students and other trainees, nurses, pharmacists, and allied healthcare professionals.

Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is formed of the Trustees, the Officers and Regional Representatives who are elected by the membership, and are responsible for the policies of the Association. They represent the incorporated body of ‘trustees’ of the Association. A lay member, co-opted and ex-officio members also sit on the Executive to give advice on specific areas of Dermatological care, education and practice.

The Finance Sub-Committee considers the financial aspects of the British Association of Dermatologists. It makes recommendations regarding spending, saving and investment strategies to the Executive Committee. It is responsible for auditing the accounts of the organisation.

National Audit Sub-Committee
The role of the National Audit Sub-Committee is to spearhead the BAD’s national clinical and service audits programmes.

National Dermatology Trainee Committee
The National Dermatology Trainee Committee (NDTC) acts as a forum for the exchange of views and information relating to trainee matters. This group is not an official committee of the British Association of Dermatologists. However, the twice yearly meetings are supported by the BAD.

Patient Advocacy and Support Groups (PASG) Fund Sub-Committee
The aim of the committee is to assist dermatology patient advocacy and support groups financially with small grants so they can benefit individuals suffering from skin conditions. Applications are invited to be submitted in the spring and autumn each year. A small committee formed by BAD Officers and PASG representatives judges the applications.

Patient Support Group Sub-Committee
This twice yearly meeting provides an opportunity for the BAD to engage with the Patient Support Groups and for them to interact with each other in a structured but informal way that enables the sharing of problems and successes.
Our aim is that BAD members should introduce patients to the groups when they are making a diagnosis and to provide their contact details to our members and their patients via our website and posters in dermatology departments.
We also consult patient representatives when drawing up any guidelines or patient information and can feature the work of the patient groups in the BAD newsletter and during our annual meetings.

Skin Diversity Sub-Committee
Aim of this sub-committee is to ensure that issues relating to skin diversity are embedded throughout the BAD’s workstreams and in dermatology more widely. The committee delivers a range of workstreams, including a small grants fund for research projects relating to skin of colour in dermatology.

Staff & Associate Specialists Sub-Committee
The aim of the sub-committee is to share information and advice regarding contracts and signpost doctors to useful resources. The sub-committee also encourages career progression via educational opportunities, applications for SAS educational grants, funding and involvement in research and offers resources on how to navigate the CESR application route, as well as audit, appraisal and revalidation.

The aim of this sub-committee is promote and embed environmentally sustainable practices throughout the BAD’s workstreams and in dermatology more widely. The SSC share best practice guidance that supports sustainability and Co-ordinate an annual Green Prize award that recognises excellence in sustainability in dermatology.

Therapy & Guidelines Sub-Committee
The role of the Therapy & Guidelines Sub-Committee is to advise members of the BAD Executive Committee on aspects of therapeutics and clinical guidelines, to produce information for patients, and to act as an interface with other relevant bodies such the BNF, MHRA, NHS England & NHS Improvement, NICE and RCP.

Historical Collections Subcommittee
The role of the Historical Collection Subcommittee of the British Association of Dermatologists is to safeguard the BAD historical archive collection at BAD House and disseminate when needed important archival materials relating to British dermatology.

Welsh Dermatology Forum
The Welsh Dermatology Forum is the official body representing the dermatologists in Wales. The aim of the Forum is to promote excellence in dermatology services for the population of Wales.
Members of the forum are the substantive Consultant Dermatologists of Wales, substantive SAS dermatologists and current SpRs training in Wales. In addition, there is representation from Primary Care and Dermatology specialist nurses.
The Dermatology Council for Wales is a subgroup of the Welsh Dermatology Forum which comprises the Welsh Dermatology Forum chairperson, secretary and treasurer; representatives from Dermatology SAS doctors, Dermatology nurses, SpRs, Primary care and a lay person. The Dermatology Council for Wales acts as liaison between the Welsh Dermatology Forum, the BAD, the Welsh government and outside agencies with an interest in dermatology.
The Welsh Dermatology Forum holds two committee meetings per year, combined with the All Wales Audit group.
The aims of the Welsh Dermatology Forum are to promote excellence in dermatology services via:
- Encouraging team working and the development of care pathways
- Developing and implementing standards of dermatology care in parallel to developments in dermatology in other parts of the UK
- Identification of deficiencies and formulate ideas for remedy
- Taking a proactive view seeking out potential future problem areas, and looking ahead for service development opportunities
- Discussion of training issues relating to SpRs, SAS doctors, and Specialist Nursing services (where these interplay with service provision)
- Provision of peer support for members
- Supporting the All Wales audit group to highlight and share best practice and promote the open sharing of ‘lessons learnt’
