Short history of the Tudno Castle Hotel
On the east was a former outbuilding, one and a half storey under a slate gabled roof. This was a garage at one time.
A Grade II listed building (CADW source reference 3506), closed in 2008 and awaited redevelopment. Original plans were approved in 2014 which gave permission to redevelop The Tudno Castle Hotel including partial demolition work.
In early 2017 two roads on either side of the Tudno Castle Hotel in Llandudno had to be closed due to the risk of the hotel collapsing. The developers on site, who were preparing for a £10 million redevelopment, noticed "historical movement" in the walls which was much more severe than first thought.
That risk turned into a need to demolish the hotel as soon as possible. Demolition was carried out in late April 2017 and whilst apparently nothing appeared to be happening, fresh plans were drawn up and had to be agreed.
The plan included building a Premier Inn, a Beefeater, and Prezzo. Other restaurants and retail outlets will also appear on the site.
The plan was to replicate the historic facade and considered to be the best proposal to protect the setting and group value of the building within the conservation area.
Reconstruction work commenced in January 2019. However COVID 19 intervened and delayed matters.
The situation as at February 2021 is shown in SH7882 : Tudno Castle Hotel rebuilt 2021
