Hello Fresh…charges you without your permission

I got an invitation from Hello Fresh stating that I would get 14 free meals, I decided to check it out. While I was on their website I quickly realized they were not going to allow me to choose 14 meals, so I abandoned the process. However, since they made me input my credit card FIRST, before choosing my meals, their system somehow auto completed the order. Fortunately I paid through Paypal, and requested a refund. The amount that Hello Fresh charged me was $35.93. The Paypal refund system would not allow me to add the cents. It only allowed me to refund $35, without the cents.

That was only the beginning. Then I started getting communications in German and the website said "Deutschland". I have no idea why.

I contacted Hello Fresh at their (646) number and told the representative I had no intentions of keeping a subscription and that I had requested the refund. I was assured it was canceled.

Then today I get a text that the shipment is on the way. I also got an email.

I created a conversation with a service agent on the Hello Fresh website. She just kept repeating over and over that the shipment was on the way. And I just kept repeating that i will not pay.

Where it all stands remains to be seen. I have wasted too much time on this. They are not worth it.

My biggest complaint and what I want other consumers to be aware of is if you input your credit card, but change your mind when you see how difficult it is to navigate what you want, their system may auto-completed the order anyway.

In some cases good however deliver cost is too high I will think to cancel it cause of the delivery cost.
For some food are still expensive you should be aware of that before ordering.

Fresh food without the need to go…

Fresh food without the need to go shopping - everything you do not have in your kitchen anyway (such as salt, pepper, sugar, oil and vinegar) is included in the boxes. So you do not have to worry that you forget to buy essential ingredients.
Many good and healthy meals are on offer. Good and easily understandable recipees.
Dependable on-time delivery.
If you count saved shopping time (time is money!) and saved gas expences, the meals offer great value.
By the way, we love their inexpensive deserts, e.g. mousse au chocolat or panna cotta.

The business plan of HelloFresh is good and sustainable. The value of their stocks dropped heavily, but only due to short-selling. A short squeeze is on the horizon and then the stock price will rocket. I bought a lot of Hello Fresh stocks at their nadir.

It is becoming ever more difficult to buy fresh food. Grocery stores are being killed by fast food delivery businesses. Consider what you get from them: highly processed and unhealthy food.

Incredible service for people that hate shopping

The value of the service is amazing. Living alone and not having to worry about exact portions to buy for is something that I really enjoy. Also, I hate shopping, but love cooking for myself. I've been using hello fresh for over a year now and I don't regret it at all.

4/5 stars only because the choice of dishes could be broader + the size of the portions and quality of ingredients have been on a steady decline in the last 6 months. There are a few recipes that I fall back to because they have appropriate portion sizes and taste good, but overall I wish there was more vegan or vegetarian options, as well as options that have a balanced diet or high protein without automatically needing to eat chicken meat. Also, the amount of times certain ingredients had to be replaced definitely increased. There was a recipe recently that had pumpkin as it's main ingredient and they just replaced it with aubergine...like? If you can't offer pumpkin because they are out of season or whatever, then just don't offer it in the first place. Stuff like that seems like a very customer-unfriendly way of cutting costs.

If you live alone, hate shopping and like to cook the service is 100% worth it, just don't expect the meal to actually use the moneys worth of ingredients. You are mostly (I'd say 60-70 %) paying for the service of prepared recipes and delivery to home. For me, that's 100% worth it at the moment, but if the service quality keeps it's steady decline going, I am definitely looking for a competitor.

Nice to have everything you need for a meal to cook

I like the fact, that you don't need to think and plan what to cook and buying all the ingredients. So you get delivered everything you need for a meal.
Often there is to less rice, potatoes, noodles so the family and kids are still hungry. Therefore we always have extra rice and potatoes at home to add. This I really dislike, specifically these are the most inexpensive ingredients of the meal, what HelloFresh could add by themselves. Lately there is always a lot of onions. Per meal, per person a whole onion. This is way to much and should rather be exchanged with other "real" vegetables.

Big variety of dishes, some minor issues

You can choose from a wide selection of different dishes. The recipes are easy to follow and they taste pretty good most of the time. It's also a great opportunity to try out new dishes and get inspiration for your cooking.
I have experienced some minor issues: Very few times the quality of the ingredients wasn't good or a ingredient was totally missing, but it was very easy to report the issue an you got your money back.
The main reason for only 4 stars for me is the price. For me it's just to expensive for the quality of products you receive.

Nice dishes, unclear recipies

Nice dishes, recipes unfortunately often more unclear or wrong than would be expected, pricing is okay, reimbursement if something was not as fresh as expected works great, overall rather good experience

I am actually pointing out mistakes on a nearly weekly basis - however I am doing this currently in the framework of judging the dishes, which is probably not the correct place to do it but the most convenient for me as a customer. In case I am overlooking a better and convenient way to give that feedback I am happy to change my process here, otherwise I'd suggest you to consider that it is more unlikely to have customer's like me write an email or anything during the cooking process to give that feedback (and after having eaten the whole thing might feel less pressing and get forgotten)

The quality has definitely declined

The quality has definitely declined in ingredients and in the effort the HelloFresh team puts into the preparation instructions. It’s not uncommon for there to be missing directions, incorrect ingredients and mismatched photos.
For ingredients I know are typically an issue like unripe or overripe avocados, etc., I buy them in advance so that I can still complete the meals.
Some of the substitutions they’ve given us have been outright inedible.
I would cancel but I just don’t have the bandwidth to come up with a weekly menu that my husband and kids will both eat.

Makes life easier but…

A lot of mistakes with ingredients lately. Things missing or wrong in every box since at least 3 months and HelloFresh always says it’s a ‘technical issue’. The app barely works and is down multiple days a week.

Sometimes details are missing or altered, sometimes the quality and freshness suffer. Overall, it's difficult to obtain compensation or a discount to independently organize necessary replacement solutions.
