Tom Hart was born in Kingston, New York in 1969. He started his comics career in Seattle, producing numerous mini-comics, in a style much inspired by Finnish artist Tove Jansson - whimsical and poetic. With his comic 'Hutch Owen's Working Hard' Hart took another course, aiming for a more political and ambitious story. He self-published it in 1994 and it earned him a Xeric grant. He then began an association with the Canadian publisher Black Eye Productions, that released Hart's next titles, 'New Hat' (1995) and 'The Sands' (1998).
