IMO –
the International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO's work supports the UN sustainable development goals.
Maritime officials from across Asia enhanced their capacity to implement flag State obligations and strengthen oversight of recognized organizations under the RO Code during an IMO regional workshop in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.
Domestic ferry safety was reinforced across the Caribbean region through an IMO-led regional workshop organized with the Maritime Administration and relevant national authorities of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Kingstown.
Efforts to advance gender-responsive maritime policies across Asia gained momentum this week as maritime professionals and women leaders worked together in Singapore (28 to 30 September ) to strengthen advocacy skills, develop practical reform strategies and build a shared vision for more inclusive maritime institutions.
