James Martin Stagg CB OBE FRSE
James Martin Stagg was the Chief Meteorologist responsible for the weather forecast for Operation Overlord Planning Team and the D-Day Landings. Without his expertise and determination, it is highly likely that the views of General Eisenhower's US advisers would have held sway and the operation would have been disastrously delayed.
There are two commemorative plaques, one on the house on the site of his childhood home, the other on the Dalkeith Library and Arts Centre. Both were unveiled on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, 6 June 2019.
