I don't know if this seat existed in Charles Darwin's time, but Sand Walk, edged by hawthorn, holly and yew, going south from the main gardens of Down House certainly was.

Seen on a warm November afternoon, this footpath leads from Luxted to Downe Court Farm (seen ahead) and then on to Downe. There is a crossing of paths here, the one on the right eventually leading to Cudham and the one on the left to Luxted Road.
