Today, we announced that a contract is awarded to Research Triangle Institute to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study on consolidating wildland fire management operations within the federal government. As many of you know, this work is part of the broader national wildfire reform efforts. In June 2025, President Trump issued an Executive Order, “ Empowering Commonsense Wildfire Prevention and Response,” aimed at strengthening the nation’s wildfire readiness by increasing efficiency across federal agencies and giving state and local leaders greater authority to support wildfire mitigation and response efforts. Submission Guidelines

Inside the Forest Service is edited, updated, and compiled by the national Office of Communication. This site, by and for employees, is updated on a daily basis and depends on field and Washington Office employees for its content.

Stories should be of wide interest. Employees should submit content through their public affairs office, which will approve and prioritize content. Final draft stories should be sent to IFS Stories inbox.

As Inside the Forest Service is designed for employees, articles may include links to employee-only websites such as SharePoint. Not all links are accessible to all viewers.
