What is SHIB?

Shiba Inu is a community-driven DeFi ecosystem, created anonymously in August 2020 by a person or group known as "Ryoshi". Its native token, SHIB (pronounced "Shh-ib"), was launched as part of an "experiment in decentralized community building" and has since fueled the expansion of Shiba Inu into a multi-token ecosystem.

What is the Shiba Inu ecosystem?

The Shiba Inu ecosystem extends beyond the SHIB token to include additional tokens like LEASH and BONE, as well as the ShibaSwap platform, a decentralized exchange where users can trade and stake tokens. The ecosystem also includes Shibarium, a Layer 2 blockchain solution designed to reduce transaction fees and increase speed. The community has expanded into NFTs with Shiboshi collectibles, and is developing a metaverse project called SHIB: The Metaverse.

Shiba Inu operates on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token, benefiting from Ethereum's vast, secure, public ledger that records every transaction.

How does DeFi impact SHIB price?

DeFi apps allow you to buy, sell, trade, and stake assets like SHIB without intermediaries or banks. To get started, all you have to do is connect to a leading crypto wallet like MetaMask. DeFi is a global financial system, and an alternative to TradFi that is accessible to anyone with an internet connection, open 24/7 worldwide.

24h change: +4.65%. From $0.00000516 to $0.0000054.

  • The Shiba Inu layer-2 network integrated nine verified Safe version 1.4.1 smart contracts. This upgrade standardizes multisignature wallets and improves tooling for developers building on the network. It provides better cross-network compatibility and security features for decentralized applications. The move comes as the project seeks to strengthen utility beyond its origins as a meme token.
  • Data shows just 3.59 million SHIB burned in the first days of the month, a nearly 50 percent decline in daily rate. August burns fell 6 percent from July despite contributions from exchanges like Robinhood, Coinbase, and WoofSwap v3. With over 589 trillion tokens in circulation, the impact of burns on supply remains limited but remains a focus for the community.
  • Following the FSA license for Laser Digital Japan to offer SHIB trading, Rakuten Wallet scheduled physical souvenir SHIB coin distributions for holders starting September 12 in Fukuoka. This builds on the token's addition to the JVCEA Green List. The developments reflect growing regulatory clarity and retail interest in Japan for the token.

24h change: +0.80%. From $0.00000515 to $0.00000519.

  • The shiba inu community burned just 3.59 million tokens in the first days of september according to shibburn data. This represents a nearly 50 percent drop in the daily burn rate and follows a 6 percent decline in total august burns compared to july. Major contributors in august included woofswap v3 along with exchanges like robinhood and coinbase. The reduced activity coincides with broader market caution and comes as the token holds levels after its recent technical breakout.
  • An early shiba inu investor moved 600 billion shib worth roughly $3.09 million. The address still holds approximately 93.27 trillion shib currently valued near $478 million after years of gradual distribution from a position that once peaked at over $9 billion. On-chain analyst ember noted the wallet originally acquired the tokens for a very small amount in 2020. Such large holder activity remains a key on-chain metric watched by the community.
  • Shiba inu broke its 11-month downtrend in august after gaining roughly 13 to 15 percent and closing above its 200-day moving average for the first time in 2026. The move was supported by its inclusion on a newly licensed japanese exchange backed by nomura. Current analyses point to patterns such as a bull flag but also note downside risks from whale selling and seasonal september weakness for the token. Price has stabilized near the $0.00000510 to $0.00000520 range.

24h change: +2.54%. From $0.00000504 to $0.00000517.

  • Japan's Financial Services Agency granted a license to Laser Digital Japan, a Nomura subsidiary, enabling SHIB trading alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and other assets. This represents the first new crypto exchange license issued in four years and builds on SHIB's prior addition to the JVCEA Green List. A Rakuten Wallet event scheduled for September 12 in Fukuoka will distribute physical souvenir SHIB coins to holders who provide proof of balance, with further events planned in other cities. The developments highlight growing regulatory and retail traction for the token in Japan.
  • Shiba Inu recorded a 1,020 percent increase in its daily burn rate, resulting in more than 20.82 million tokens being sent to dead wallets in a single period. These burns are linked to transaction fees on the Shibarium layer-2 network as part of the project's long-term deflationary strategy. While the absolute numbers burned remain small relative to the 589 trillion circulating supply, the spikes reinforce community focus on reducing available tokens over time. Similar burn activity has been reported multiple times in late August.
  • Shiba Inu closed above its 200-day moving average and 20-week moving average for the first time in 2026, ending an 11-month bearish cycle. Market capitalization has stabilized in the $3.0 billion to $3.26 billion range after the Japan-related news and broader market moves. August delivered approximately 15 percent gains for SHIB, its strongest monthly performance in history. Analysts note the token is retesting breakout levels while exchange reserves have declined.

24h change: -2.67%. From $0.00000519 to $0.00000505.

  • Data from late August shows the Shiba Inu burn rate surging as much as 1020 percent in 24 hours, with more than 20 million tokens incinerated. This continues the community's long-term deflationary strategy tied to Shibarium transaction fees. While burns reduce circulating supply over time, their immediate price impact remains limited given the total token volume.
  • Japan's Financial Services Agency approved SHIB for trading on Laser Digital Japan, a Nomura subsidiary and the first new licensed exchange in four years. The token was included alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and others. This marks a notable regulatory milestone for a meme coin and follows prior additions to Japan's green list and Rakuten Wallet.
  • The token gained around 13-15 percent in August, its strongest monthly performance to date, after breaking an 11-month downtrend and reclaiming its 200-day moving average. Market capitalization has held near the $3 billion level. Analysts note potential seasonal weakness in September even as burns and ecosystem activity continue.

24h change: +0.98%. From $0.00000515 to $0.0000052.

  • Japan’s Financial Services Agency approved Laser Digital Japan, a Nomura subsidiary and the first new crypto exchange in four years, to list SHIB alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin. SHIB is the only meme coin included, building on its 2025 addition to the JVCEA Green List. The news coincided with SHIB posting gains of roughly 14 percent in August, its strongest monthly return in history, and stabilizing market capitalization near $3.0-3.2 billion.
  • SHIB saw a 1020 percent burn rate spike that incinerated over 20 million tokens on August 29, following earlier surges of 441 percent and 618 percent. Approximately 145.9 billion to 261 billion SHIB moved onto exchanges in recent days, generating sell-side pressure. Technical momentum has cooled with the token trading below key moving averages after rejecting near $0.00000620.
  • The Shiba Inu ecosystem launched Camp Network, an AI-powered media engine that helps businesses generate approved content across channels. Shibarium daily transactions rose to nearly 4,500 in early August, the highest since mid-July. These steps reflect ongoing development of utility and real-world adoption features such as exchange listings in Australia and spendability at Dubai Duty Free.
