Breach of guidelines
15 day unlimited plan for Turkey lockout issues…
I purchased the 15 day unlimited plan with daily 10 GB data for Turkey.
On the second day after activation, I was locked out, supposedly due to breach of fair use limit of 10 GB.
It took 24 hours for the service to be resumed.
I started checking my usage every day. On the 5th day the same lockout happened although I had used only 6 GB data for that period. Lockout happened again on the 12 day and now it has been more than 24 hours and my service is still locked. I asked for a refund and inspite of sim local promise that refulds will be provided, my request for refund was refused.
Improvements that sim local can make:
1. Provide an accurate usage display in their app that can be used by customers to contest illegal lockouts
2. sim local should abide by their promised refund policy.
I am going to contest this transaction with Visa and get a refund through them.
Worst eSim i have ever tried
Worst eSim i have ever tried. They advertise 10gb per day on the unlimited plan, but silently just blocked my account. Lost money on this purchase, and was stranded without a Sim
Everything was good with the service
Good eSIM for online use
Good eSIM — it was easy to buy and activate, and it worked for perfectly in October in UK. The app doesn’t remember my history though, so I can’t say how much did it costs for me to use for two weeks. But I remember it was a fair price and good internet quality (I didn’t use it for the calls).
I tried to purchase an eSIM using Apple…
I tried to purchase an eSIM using Apple Pay but Sim Local wanted my address? I contacted them to ask why as it is an eSIM and the payment is made using Apple Pay and an address is not needed as i am not giving them card details it is being paid by Apple Pay. They insisted without understanding. I discovered them through google search and my address and the purchase of a travel sim tells them when my home is empty? Trust is 2 way. I / we pay them and trust it will work. They have no requirement or need for my address.

I too was misled by the reviews
I too was misled by the reviews. Today I know that I fell for an offer. I will also spread this on the web. What EE has to offer first goes to those who have a regular SIM from EE, then nothing comes for a long time and then come the SIM cards from the roaming partners. Whatever is left is intended for such companies with SIM Local. My experiences here in Devon (England) are similar. In summary, I can say that my Congstar tariff for roaming was always better than SIM Local. This itself led to cancellations. All of EE's behavior leads to a statement:
In England the internet has (become) very bad. One wonders why so much fiber has been laid here if it is not needed except for the few 5G masts.
Be that as it may, we are dependent on the Internet and will accordingly extend our holiday share in France in the autumn and reduce it to a few essential places in England.
I'm not looking to argue with SIM Local providers for refunds. The vacation is too good for me.

Kept me connected for the whole month without issue while I was abroad.

Avoid Sim Local – Misleading “Unlimited” Plans and Completely Useless Customer Service
I purchased a Sim Local branded “Unlimited Data” plan powered by Smartsim for my UK trip, expecting reliable high-speed data as heavily promoted. What I received instead was misleading advertising and a total failure by their customer service team to take any responsibility.
The plan worked initially, but after a moderate amount of normal usage I hit the 10 GB daily high-speed cap and then the service completely cut off — data became totally unusable. Other companies at least give you a high-speed allowance and then slow the connection down so you can still use it. Sim Local’s plan just stops completely at 10 GB. Yet it is still marketed and sold as “unlimited” even when the data has stopped entirely. How can it possibly be unlimited if the service cuts off and becomes unusable after a fixed daily limit? Their own support later confirmed that all unlimited plans are subject to a Fair Usage Policy that can include “temporary service restrictions or disconnections” that “are not always progressive.” None of this was clearly or prominently explained at the point of purchase.
I raised a formal complaint detailing the misleading “Unlimited Data” claims versus the reality of the hidden 10 GB cap followed by a total cut-off. Over the following days and weeks I received nothing but generic, copy-paste holding emails: “your case is still being actively reviewed by our specialised team”, “we have not forgotten about you”, “we will be in touch with a full update very shortly”. These were clearly designed to delay and frustrate rather than help.
When they finally replied, they admitted that “the way the plan was presented… did not fully match your expectations” and that communication around the Fair Usage Policy could be improved. They even said they “regret any frustration this has caused”. Yet they refused any refund or compensation, citing their “No Quibble Refund” policy that only applies to unused eSIMs. Because I had activated and used the plan (as any normal customer would), I was simply told I was out of luck — despite their own admission that the marketing had been misleading.
To make matters worse, they then closed the ticket as “resolved” with a standard “good news – your request has been resolved!” message and asked me to rate their customer service. Resolved? They didn’t fix the unusable data, didn’t offer any goodwill gesture, and didn’t acknowledge that leaving a traveller without working mobile data is a serious failure. They just parroted policy and closed the case.
Customer service at Sim Local is not merely slow — it is deliberately unhelpful, evasive, and structured to protect the company rather than the customer. They use delaying tactics and generic templates, admit fault in the small print, then wash their hands and mark the complaint “resolved” without actually resolving anything.
If you’re a traveller who needs reliable data abroad, stay well away from Sim Local. Their “unlimited” Sim Local branded plans powered by Smartsim hide a 10 GB daily cap followed by a total cut-off (unlike other providers that at least slow down after their allowance), and their support team offers zero accountability or genuine customer care. Save your money and choose a provider with transparent policies and actual support. I will never use them again and strongly recommend everyone else does the same.

Flawless in Japan
The internet connection in Japan was always flawless. I even had better connection in the Shinkansen with the eSIM than its WiFi which regularly disconnected. Will definitely book this on my next trip again.
