New Zealand?

[edit]

What is so special about new Zealand getting its first gold medal? Why is that noteworthy to be in the lead? Got nothing against the Kiwis except it's weird to mention them in the lead as if they're a major player in the games. I mean there are no mention of the host nation having its most successful winter games and getting a new record of 9 golds. Despite at least that info is comparatively more noteworthy than New Zealand.Jungkook1996 (talk) 07:51, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

China is mentioned in the lead, (at least now it is. It might have been added between your comment and mine). SSSB (talk) 13:00, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We always try to highlights firsts, especially NOC's first gold medals. Jmj713 (talk) 18:38, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Does the medal count in the table include the Figure Skating Team Event, for which medals haven't been handed out yet?

[edit]

It's not clear from the text in the article. It should be mentioned that things could change if Russia is eventually dethroned due to a doping ruling... AnonMoos (talk) 19:00, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@AnonMoos: On the Olympics website, it is stated that 'Figure Skating Team and Women Single Skating event results are provisional'. This would suggest that the medal count includes both events, but it is likely to be changed later. Jolly1253 (talk) 01:49, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There should be something about this in the text of this article, to add clarity and avoid confusion. AnonMoos (talk) 03:39, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@AnonMoos: provisional results are definitely included as the medal table has 109 golds, silver and bronzes, and there were 109 medaling events at the games. I have also added the note. SSSB (talk) 11:01, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks... AnonMoos (talk) 10:25, 1 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Women's skicross

[edit]

I prepared a section for changes in medal standings, but apparently FIS' decision can still be overruled.

 Daniela Maier (GER) −1 −1

Fanny Smith had been sanctioned with a yellow card from the FIS Jury in the Women’s Olympic Ski Cross Final race, which caused her to be moved from third to fourth. On appeal, the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski Appeals Commission decided to overturn that yellow card, thus reinstating her as the bronze medalist.[1]

 Fanny Smith (SUI) +1 +1

However despite all info above, this source: https://www.br.de/nachrichten/sport/kein-happy-end-skicrosserin-maier-muss-olympia-bronze-abgeben,SyXPdPu states:

FIS gibt Protest statt Die zuständige Kommission des Internationalen Ski-Verbandes FIS hat nun einem Protest des Schweizer Skiverbandes Swiss Ski gegen das Resultat des Rennens am 17. Februar stattgegeben.

Which google translates to:

FIS grants protest The competent commission of the International Ski Federation FIS has now approved a protest by the Swiss Ski Federation Swiss Ski against the result of the race on February 17th. Maier now has to give up her bronze medal to Smith. However, this does not yet have a direct impact on the Olympic medal, because the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decides on this. The IOC announced that it would examine the case when all processes at the FIS level were completed.

"To be honest, I'm surprised by the new situation and I'm also excited to see what will happen now that the objection has been granted." Daniela Maier in a statement from the DSV

So maybe it's not final yet after all. -- Lejman (talk) 11:34, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
