GitHubのキャラクターとして人気の「Octocat」。しかし、そのOctocatにまつわる新事実が判明しました。 先日「GitHub」日本法人設立（関連記事）のために来日したCIO Scott Chaconさんに聞けば、実はこの「Octocat」というネーミングは「キャラクターの名前」ではなく「種族」の名前。キャラクターの正式名称は「Monalisa」（モナリサ）なのだそうです。し、知らなかった……！ 「Monalisa」という名前になったのは、2008年の創業から1年半ほど経ったある日。GitHubの5番目の社員であるRyan Tomaykoさんの娘さんが、学校の課題（仮想の生きもので物語を作るというもの）でGitHubのキャラクターを用いたことがきっかけでした。 その物語は、「モナリサという猫が海へ潜ったときサンゴを飲み込んでしまい、その瞬間足がタコのように伸びてしまった」というス
