So the four pillars of the Academy underpin everything we envision for the education of each pupil. We have the Virtual Learning Platform, live, interactive lessons with subject specialist teachers, the program of mentoring to provide additional support for every pupil and the development of community and socialization.

Virtual Learning Platform

So the virtual learning platform is where all of our teachers build the learning content for their courses. It's where pupils go to find all the learning resources, all the assignments and activities that are going to help them to learn and consolidate their understanding of topics. Teaching alongside the virtual learning and platform is really really helpful and it leads to some very engaging lessons. They might already have a few questions that they come to the lesson with that you can then help answer. But also for those who didn't understand it the first time around, then can really targeting on the areas they did not understand. And so it makes sure that nobody's left behind and everybody has access to the resources to learn the material and knows exactly where to find them. It's almost like an interactive textbook. They can refer back to at any time. They can look at the information prior to our lesson and they can put it aside and ask me if they need any clarification. And then all the resources are there for them to go over and revise from to. They can absolutely watch lessons back, they can have access to the PowerPoint from the lesson, they can email me through there, they can have a go at quizzes and they can undertake some wider readings should they wish.

Live Lessons

So live lessons are spread throughout the week for all pupils. They're in small sets, so pupils are learning with up to 20 other classmates. They're led by our subject specialist teachers, many of whom come to us as previous heads of department. All are highly experienced. The teachers in those lessons will build upon the proprietary pupils have done, consolidate it, ensure it's well understood, and then take them into the deeper and more interesting aspects of the topic.

Mentoring

Mentoring is one of the aspects of the academy of which we are most proud. It's unusual to a certain extent unheard of for people to get such a high level of personal one to one attention in school context providing academic oversight for all their work as well as pastoral support. The mentors are an amazing team and they have a wonderful job. Their job is to be a true ally on each people's educational journey to help them achieve their best academically, to help them achieve balance in their life with schoolwork and their other hobbies and interests and over time to get to know them to the extent that they can help them develop their ideas for their own future.

Community & School Trips

We build community aspects into every week and almost every day of the pupils interaction at the academy. Because we think it's so important. We want them to develop their social interactions with other pupils to feel like they're part of a true community. We do that by coming together in weekly assemblies. We run special cocurricular educational opportunities in our World Changes Project. We help support them passorally through wellbeing sessions, and we help them to socialize by providing opportunities to be in clubs. This all then feeds into our trips that we run each term where people can come together and meet each other in person to further develop those friendships and rapport and or that they've built up in the live sessions.
