2022 FINA World Cup: What You Need to Know

With short-course season in full swing, some of the sport's biggest stars are already testing international competition. The 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup kicks off October 21 in Berlin for the first of the three-leg competition. The Berlin stretch goes through October 23 before moving to Vancouver, Canada from October 28-30 and Indianapolis, Indiana from November 3-5.
Athlete Overview
A strong group of Americans is set to compete at all three stops, with Erika Brown, Nic Fink, Hali Flickinger, Kieran Smith, Tom Shields, Shaine Casas and Beata Nelson entered to swim at each location. For the Germany stop specifically, this group will be joined by the likes of Linnea Mack, Paige Madden and numerous club swimmers from the United States. To view the full breakdown of Americans competing in Berlin, click here. The Toronto stop will feature 24 Americans, including Olympians Erika Brown, Leah Smith, Kieran Smith, Katie Ledecky and more.
Additionally, the Indianapolis stop is expected to feature nearly 40 U.S. National Team members, 12 junior athletes and many more club swimmers. Click here to see some of the names.
Prize Money
The series will feature a number of monetary prizes for the top-finishing athletes. The overall winner of the series, for men and for women, is the athlete with the highest overall points after completion of all the Meets from the series.
The overall prize purse of this year’s FINA Swimming World Cup is $1.2 million. For each meet, the top-20 male and female athletes will share $224,000 in prize money ($112,000 per gender). At the end of the series, an additional $262,000 will be awarded to the top eight men and women athletes, based on their overall ranking. The full prize-money breakdown can be found here.
