‘The Favourite,’ ‘Pose,’ ‘Killing Eve’ Lead Dorian Award Nominations

Yorgos Lanthimos' period piece The Favourite, FX's ball-culture musical Pose and BBC America's serial-killer drama Killing Eve lead the list of 2018 nominees for the Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics' (GALECA) annual Dorian Awards.

The Favourite nabbed the most film mentions of any title with eight, including for film of the year, director of the year for Lanthimos and film performance of the year – actress for Olivia Colman. Following behind Lanthimos' film was Barry Jenkins' If Beale Street Could Talk, Alfonso Cuaron's Roma and Marielle Heller's Can You Ever Forgive Me? with six noms each and A Star Is Born with four.

The awards, voted on by GALECA's over 200 international members, who come from the U.S., Australia, Canada and the U.K., also honor films with LGBTQ themes. Nominated for LGBTQ film of the year by the organization were Boy Erased, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Disobedience, The Favourite and Love, Simon. The Gospel According to Andre, McQueen, Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, Studio 54 and Whitney, meanwhile, were nominated for LGBTQ documentary of the year. Nods for campy flick of the year went to Aquaman, Book Club, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, A Simple Favor and Suspiria.

Within GALECA's TV categories, Pose and Killing Eve led their peers with three noms each, with Pose nabbing mentions for TV drama of the year, TV performance of the year – actor for Billy Porter and TV musical performance of the year for Porter, MJ Rodriguez and Our Lady J's "Home," and Killing Eve securing nods for TV drama of the year and TV performance of the year – actress for co-leads Sandra Oh and Jody Comer.

Vying for the artist of the year award, which honors "a truly groundbreaking force in film, stage and/or television," will be Bradley Cooper, Hannah Gadsby, Lady Gaga, Nicole Kidman and Ryan Murphy.

“We’re thrilled by the strong variety of films and TV performances our diverse group of members has chosen to praise,” Diane Anderson-Minshall, GALECA president and editorial director of The Advocate, said Thursday in a statement. "In a lovely compliment to the Time’s Up movement, several categories, including Wilde Artist of the Year, Wilde Wit of the Year and Rising Star, are dominated by women this year. And it’s inspiring that the majority of our Director of the Year nominees are people of color, including Spike Lee, Barry Jenkins and Alfonso Cuarón.”

"It’s hard to believe this is our 10th go-around of giving out our Dorian Awards,” GALECA’s executive director John Griffiths said in his own statement. “In such oddly combative times, that’s really something to covfefe."

The Society also announced that pop-culture pundit Frank DeCaro will host the show, which is set to take place Saturday at noon at the Paley restaurant in Hollywood's Columbia Square. See the full list of nominees below.
