Libraries modal refresh
Libraries modal refresh
The libraries modal in UI3 has been refreshed, making it easier and faster to browse libraries and add them to your Figma Design file. We’ve added a new “recommended” libraries view and clearer arrangement of available libraries across your teams. This update is available in UI3 only.

Suggested variables
When getting layout code suggestions in Dev Mode, users will now see when a style, color, or size value matches a local variable even if it wasn’t specified in the design.
Variables details
Users now can see more than just the variable names in Dev Mode. Selecting a variable opens a pop-up panel that includes values, properties, aliases, collection information, and more.
Access variable collections
View all the variable collections used in a file in a single table. Easily see all available variables, modes, and values in a single view.
Eyedropper is now more powerful, ergonomic, and fully redesigned for UI3
Eyedropper is now more powerful, ergonomic, and fully redesigned for UI3
A few new updates to the eyedropper, only available in UI3
- Eyedropper now supports color variables and color styles in addition to the raw hex
- Eyedropper can create a new color variable or color style and apply that variable by using the shortcut “command + shift” even when not a visible option
- Users can use the eyedropper to copy hex, RGB, HSL, HSB codes in raw text format to the clipboard
- Users can use the tab key to rotate through different color formats directly from the eyedropper
Variables updates and component properties improvements for design systems
Variables updates and component properties improvements for design systems
Component properties can be bound to variables
- Variables can now be bound to an instance’s component property to help drive design system consistency and more powerful prototypes.
- The UI has been simplified so that now both variables and properties are combined into one drop down menu with text at the top position.
Plus, seven quality of life improvements to variables
- Copy and paste variables: In the authoring modal, users can now use keyboard shortcuts for copy and paste. Users can also copy multiple variables at once and paste variables in a different collection or file.
- New variables under the selection: When creating a new variable in the authoring modal, the new variable appears under the selection (and not at the bottom of the table).
- Tabbing through authoring window: In the authoring modal, tab stops are now present in the inputs for modes, variable names, and variable values for improved accessibility.
- Improved accessibility: Pressing Backspace once within a bound input field now detaches the variable (previously, two Backspaces were required). Clicking on an input field sets the focus to it. Additionally, when tabbing through inputs with bound variables, the focus remains on the value itself, capturing user action. The keyboard interactions are now smoother and should behave as expected.
- Resizable columns in the authoring modal: Columns in the authoring modal are now resizable for easier viewing of longer-form data
- Hover to show value and description: Hovering on a bound variable shows the rendered value and the variable’s description in the tooltip.
- Hover to show group name: When long group names are truncated in the variable picker, hovering shows the full name in a tooltip. Also fixed bugs in the authoring modal where long group names were cut off in the sidebar and the group headers.

See changes to variables in branch review
When working in a branch, if you’ve made updates to variable fields—like scope, code syntax, or publishing settings—Figma will now clearly list out those changes in branch review. We'll also flag any conflicts between the variables in your branch and those in the main branch. This means it'll be easier for you to resolve any discrepancies before merging—if only merging in traffic were this smooth.
Rename files via the desktop tab
In the Figma desktop app, you can now double-click on the tab you're working in to rename your file. Yep, it just got easier to rename "Launch Assets - final" to "Launch Assets - final final."
Stay informed with new Dev Mode notifications
Ready for Dev lets developers know when it's time to start building—but what about when things change or are completed? Starting today, Dev Mode users will get notifications about status updates including changes and completions. Less friction, more function.
Swapping component instances in UI3
The modal you use to swap instances of a component has gotten an upgrade in UI3. Now it matches the layers panel, with options for list and grid views. Plus, it has folder nesting to help you keep everything tidy. Available only in UI3.
Lock sections in FigJam
You can now lock sections in FigJam, directly from your inline toolbar. This makes it easier to lock parts of your board to prevent them from moving—even if a teammate feels inspired to hop in and do a little "tidying up" for you. (We know they mean well.) When you’re ready to unlock a section you'll be asked to confirm—this helps avoid accidental unlocking. To learn more, check out this article.
Deck the underlines
Want to add some decoration to your underlines in Figma? Introducing text underline details. You can now set the color, style (solid, dotted, or wavy), and thickness of underlines. Plus, choose how offset an underline is from the text and if it skips ink or not.
Mix and match paragraph styling
Have you ever wanted to apply different paragraph spacing or indentation to the same text node? Well, now you can.
Updates to the missing font modal you won't want to miss
The missing fonts modal has been updated to make it easier to replace missing fonts. It now groups font families for faster searching and lets you replace the font of a single text node, as well as the fonts on an entire page or all pages. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do if your client still prefers Comic Sans. Good luck out there.
Are you there font? It's me, Figma
Figma now detects when you download a font locally to your computer and automatically adds that font to the font picker—no refresh required.
Resizable prototyping modal update
The prototyping modal is now resizable, giving you more screen space for setting up prototyping interactions and viewing the details for multiple actions. The variables modal is also resizable now, giving you more control over Figma’s interface in UI3.
Add new template styles to your decks
You can now add new template styles to your Figma Slides decks directly from the styles overview modal, making it simpler to give your whole team access to stunning presentation templates.
Rename and delete template styles
You can now delete and rename template style colors in Figma Slides. To learn more about templates and template styles, check out this article.
Present prototypes and slides offline
You can now download your prototype or slide deck so you can view or present offline. No wifi, no worries. To learn more, check out this article on prototypes, and this article on Figma slides.
Draft slide presenter notes with AI
Got writer's block? Figma AI can help. You can now draft presenter notes with AI—just add one line of text to your slide and let AI do the heavy lifting. From there, you can fine tune your presentation to your unique voice. To learn more, check out this article.
Multi-edit, now in Figma Slides
The Multi-edit you know and love is now available in Figma Slides. Select multiple layers in Figma Slides and apply edits to them all at once. Editing, as it should be.
Figma notifications, now less overwhelming
Notifications in Figma will now be grouped by date and file type to make it easier for you to understand the ongoing activity in your files.
Edit presenter notes in presenter view
You can now edit your presenter notes in Presenter View. Adjust your notes on the fly or make last-minute tweaks. No matter what your process is, it just got a bit more flexible.
