S.W.A.T.‘s Stephanie Sigman Confirms Exit — Captain Cortez Won’t Be Back
S.W.A.T.‘s Captain Cortez must have really liked her five-week sampler of FBI training, because as hinted in the Season 3 premiere, she will not be returning to her post at L.A. Metro.
Original cast member Stephanie Sigman confirmed via Instagram on Thursday that “Jessica Cortez is on to new adventures… and so am I.” Indicating that the split was amicable, Sigman — who is due to give birth to her first child this month — wrote that she was “happy with the work done” over her two seasons with the CBS procedural, and is “thankful and proud of the strength” displayed by her alter ego (who in addition to serving as captain was also a sometime love interesting for Shemar Moore’s Hondo).
S.W.A.T. showrunner Shawn Ryan acknowledged Sigman’s IG, tweeting “Much thanks… for her tremendous work on S.W.A.T. It was a pleasure to write for her and see what she did with the role each week.
“Stephanie’s an extremely talented actress,” he continued. “I look forward to seeing what she conquers next professionally. We’ll be rooting for her.”
Potentially filling the void left by Sigman’s exit, Amy Farrington (Faking It, Beyond) made her S.W.A.T. debut Wednesday night in the series regular role of Detective Lynch, who was appointed by the mayor as a tactical consultant to Hondo’s team.
S.W.A.T. Season 3 is airing Wednesdays at 10/9c, where this week it returned to series-low ratings.

I’m really disappointed by this news. Stephanie was great on this show and had great chemistry with Shemar. Plus, I loved having another woman among the cast so Chris could have an ally and mentor.
First Mercedes Mason, now Stephanie Sigman. What a disappointment.

Mercedes Mason wasn’t on SWAT. She was on The Rookie.
I hope lynch gets better because I wasn’t fan this first go round
They kept telling us how awesome she was but imo The portrayal just didn’t come close to matching the hype

i personally like lynch better than cortez. idk sigman has never been able to portray the badass cortez is supposed to be. hetty’s NCIS or Matty’s Macgyver are more badass than her. lynch however is better in this badass department.
I actually liked the new detective, and in all honesty, didn’t really miss Cortez. I liked the character, but she really went nowhere. As for the ratings networks seem to be bent on sabotaging their own shows. Always moving shows around, how can they sustain an audience?
Not happy about this. She had chemistry with everyone on the show, but more importantly, she had charisma. For a leading lady, that isn’t always the case. Disappointed.
Agreed, I liked her relationship with both the SWAT team and Hicks, and she played very well with Lina Esco in their friend/mentor relationship and the undercover jobs.
New detective appears to be one of those generic NCIS-style characters (Ziva and Hetty for example) who are great at everything apparently, so far anyway. Hopefully that will change and she’ll become more rounded.

So sorry to hear she is a very important person on the show it will not be the same without her . She is a great actress and will be greatly missed but I am glad that they left her Character open so she can come back if she wanted to.
I remember sometime last season Stephanie had an Instagram story post complaining about a big shot always being really late to set. She deleted it quickly and she never said who it was or if it was SWAT but i always wondered.
I love Hondo’s and Cortez together, the show isn’t the same without them, I was hoping Stephanie would come back as a guest star, now that I know she is having a baby, if the show is still around next year, and if it’s all right with both sides maybe she can come back, wishful thinking!!
That sucks I thought she was great on there. Loved her and her character. They always take the good ones but maybe they will bring her character back…….. and let let her and Hondo hook up
