Now in 2024 the Oil companies, auto manufacturers, critics of ICEs pin hopes for CNG 2 Wheelers but then when a technology just evolved in 2010 it was mocked by these same experts saying the pathway is EVs. I am talking about none other than me who developed the world's most fuel efficient dedicated CNG engine technology as a Doctoral Thesis. A prototype of CNG bike with a mileage of 120 km/kg of Gas (not on IDC at ARAI but purely On-Road test drives else on ARAI conditions it will cross 150 km/kg), a 10% reduction in engine capacity with 13% improvement in torque compared to gasoline (a total reversal in trend). Regret to say the Indian Patent Authority rejected the application after holding it for 14 years.

Do You Agree That the Path Beyond Incentives Will Depend on Today's R&D Efforts? Bernstein’s report made me question the role of incentives and subsidies in shaping the EV industry. It suggested that without subsidies and incentives, several electric vehicle manufacturers and OEMs would struggle to remain profitable in the long run. The report does raise concerns when the industry is clamouring for stable policies and subsidies. However, I think we should take it as a call for doubling our R&D efforts. Extensive research on product development can help manufacturers and OEMs improve their offerings and innovate future mobility solutions. For instance, focused efforts to boost a vehicle’s battery capacity and range can increase EVs’ appeal in the market. Similarly, R&D to enhance maneuverability and safety specs can make them suitable for diverse Indian terrains. Above all, improving technology and product design can help manufacture better-quality products without inflating production costs. At Terra Motors Corporation, prioritizing R&D has offered us desirable results. Hence, I believe that dedicated research can help the EV industry become less reliant on incentives to disrupt the sector. Tesla alumni-led R&D company, DG Innovate has decided to enter the Indian market via a joint venture with EVage. The partnership is said to manufacture 98.5% efficient electric motors which not only increase efficiency but also reduce the price of an electric motor. Could the Extension of the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme Benefit E3W Drivers? I am pleased with the government of India’s decision to extend the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 for two more months. The scheme, which came with an initial window of April to July, will now be active until September 30, 2024, and will receive increased funding of Rs. 778 crores. In my opinion, it could make EVs more accessible and affordable for all segments of society. I believe this extension, on a scheme that aims to support 560,789 EVs, including 60,709 electric three-wheelers, will benefit e-rickshaw drivers, L3 fleet operators, and logistics providers significantly. The increased outlay and subsidy will help registered e-rickshaw, e-cart, and e-auto drivers reduce operational costs, as well as lower fuel expenses and maintenance costs, which can boost their earnings. It could encourage many to participate in green mobility, creating fresh employment opportunities. It will also support fleet operators in transitioning to greener mobility options while complying with environmental norms. While there’s yet to be any concrete announcement on the fate of FAME-III, support like EMPS 2024 could help the electric three-wheeler segment retain its momentum. However, I hope the government will look into the prospect of the scheme and extend it for a significant period because the public transport sector needs financial aid and policy stability to grow. Given the present stock market conditions along with retail investors interest, these are likely to sail through. This will be a boost to the economy as retail investors' interest in the stock market will lead to enriching the companies in business and helping them grow. This may also likely to cool down market a bit as money inflow will be absorbed by the supply of paper. But this will be help in building strong foundation.
