🚨 5 Promotion Blockers You Should Be Aware For most employees, securing a promotion and a raise is a common career goal. As experience grows, so too does the hope of climbing the career ladder to eventually lead others. However, watching peers get promoted while you stay in the same position can lead to frustration and the question, “Why am I always passed over for promotion?” Articles from Fast Company and HuffPost discuss five key traits that might be holding you back from advancement. Here’s a rundown of what could be hindering your progress. 1. Reluctance to accept Feedback Bonnie Dilber, recruiting manager of the automation platform Zapier, notes that being unwilling to receive feedback can be a significant barrier to career growth. If you are closed off to constructive criticism, appear overly confident, or fail to apply feedback to your work, it may hinder your professional development. 2. Inability to consider others’ perspectives Dilber emphasizes that in a team environment, it’s essential to consider and respect colleagues’ viewpoints. Being unwilling to listen to others can make you appear difficult to work with, lacking team spirit, and dismissive of diverse opinions—all traits that can hold you back in a collaborative setting. 3. Resistance to learning Daniel Space, who has held HR roles at companies like WebMD, Electronic Arts, and Spotify, points out that a refusal to learn or projecting an “I know it all” attitude can stall your advancement. Leadership, he says, is a skill cultivated over time, and when companies decide who to promote, they often prioritize individuals who are eager to learn and show humility. 4. Not expressing your desire for promotion Space also mentions that many employees are afraid to tell their manager they want to be promoted. However, if you have aspirations for advancement, it’s crucial to communicate them. Your manager may not know your goals unless you make them clear. 5. Smiling too often Psychologists warn that employees who are overly agreeable and always appear cheerful can fall into the “performance punishment” trap. These employees are often given extra work because they consistently deliver, yet they don’t receive the promotions or pay raises they deserve. Understanding these potential roadblocks can help you adjust your approach and position yourself better for the next promotion. |Be sure to follow Hong Kong Economic Journal| |Inspiring Leadership Through Real Stories| #HKEJ #Workplace #Employee #Promotion

// With the U.S. presidential election largely settled, former President Donald Trump has emerged victorious. His Republican Party has also regained control of the Senate and is likely to secure a majority in the House, potentially resulting in a Republican “Red Sweep.” Following these preliminary results, financial markets have responded as expected. The reduction in political uncertainty has led to a generally positive reaction in the stock market. Meanwhile, bond yields rose during early Asian trading on Wednesday, reflecting investor optimism that tax cuts may be extended. In the long term, such policies are likely to increase the federal debt burden, yet they may also support continued economic growth. Does Your Company Have a Chief Happiness Officer ? As workplace happiness becomes a strategic priority, leading companies are creating roles like Chief Happiness Officer (CHO) to foster a positive culture. Firms like Google, SAP, and The HEINEKEN Company have introduced Happiness Departments, while others opt for titles emphasizing well-being, such as The Coca-Cola Company's "Benefits and Well-Being Manager" and Rakuten's "Chief Well-being Officer." Companies like LinkedIn and Airbnb focus on "Employee Experience," underscoring the importance of workplace engagement and employee satisfaction. CHOs not only build supportive environments but also tackle unique challenges and bring occasional surprises to staff. For example, Janet Leighton, CHO at Timpson, once gifted an oven to an employee with a broken one, showing the lengths CHOs go to enhance staff well-being. Interestingly, the term "Chief Happiness Officer" first appeared in 2004 when McDonald's named Ronald McDonald as their playful CHO, sparking a trend that has since grown into an integral role in modern business. |Be sure to follow Hong Kong Economic Journal| |Inspiring Leadership Through Real Stories| #HKEJ #CHO

【BMS籲政府推動制定AI網安策略】 BMS Urges Government to Promote Development of AI Cybersecurity Strategy As financial institutions increasingly adopt artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the associated cybersecurity risks are often underestimated. Toby Hooker, broker of BMS Group, noted that the penetration rate of cybersecurity insurance among Asian companies remains lower than in the US and Europe. Hooker called on Hong Kong regulators to encourage companies using AI to establish a robust cybersecurity insurance strategy. He also recommended that companies, especially publicly listed ones, appoint a board director with an AI background and expertise to oversee AI-related matters. 網站全文:https://lnkd.in/gimkFjHw |Be sure to follow Hong Kong Economic Journal| |Inspiring Leadership Through Real Stories| #信報 #專訪 #AI #網絡安全

A decade ago, the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect debuted, connecting mainland China with overseas capital markets and paving the way for subsequent programs like Bond Connect and Wealth Management Connect. These initiatives have reshaped the Hong Kong stock market ecosystem and promoted the internationalization of A-shares. Despite the substantial achievements over the past 10 years, Charles Li, former CEO of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEX) and now Founder and Chairman of Micro Connect | 滴灌通, expressed in our exclusive interview that his greatest regret is not realizing a “Stock Connect for IPOs” during his tenure. Li remains convinced that such an initiative would greatly benefit both mainland China and Hong Kong, describing it as a viable move with immense potential. While the timing is not yet ripe, he believes ‘Primary Equity Connect’ could become a reality within the next decade. 網站全文:https://lnkd.in/g7gTggv3 |Be sure to follow Hong Kong Economic Journal| |Your Professional Guide to Financial Intelligence| #新股通 #HKEX #MicroConnect #李小加
