You know how in ArgoCD or Istio there's a "Control Plane" of sorts? As in, a Management Server. It's a Server that listens to responses. For example - I can set up ArgoCD on a management server that allows you to register other Kubernetes clusters to it. That way, the management server can send out all of the information to the registered clusters without every single cluster having to run ArgoCD. It lowers the management pains because there's one central server doing it all. Same rules apply with the Codiac Relay. It's the "brains of the operation". It doesn't store any data, it just relays (hence the name) the configurations you want in your clusters to the clusters. When you use the CLI, it sends the commands directly to the Relay and then the Relay communicates with the Codiac environment to manage and maintain clusters. That means you don't have to worry about local Kubeconfigs and configurations. We can test this by Execing into the Cofiac Relay. #kubernetes #devops #platformengineering

KubeVirt is a way to run VMs on Kubernetes. No, not resources in Pods (like a container), but actual Virtual Machines. It creates a new resource via the KubeVirt CRDs that is a VM-based object, not a container. With Managed Kubernetes Service (AKS, GKE, EKS, etc.) engineers were told it would be a fully managed experience. That wasn't the case though... Yeah, it's definitely easier than managing on-prem, but there was still a lot you had to worry about like: - Monitoring - Observability - Scaling - Upgrades and a few other pieces to the puzzle. AKS Automatic appears to be solving that problem... but is that a good thing? My video below goes through the setup process and the "why" behind it. #kubernetes #devops #platformengineering

Silos in the Kubernetes space isn't a bad thing. You may also see this as a "separation of concern". Originally, we all wanted the whole "don't throw things across the fence", which is true, but that turned into "everyone does everything" and that's not realistic. The reality is that especially in the Kubernetes space with how complex it is, you need folks that are particularly good at certain areas. Running ML and AI workloads is costly, but it doesn't have to be. Although you still need a larger Kubernetes cluster to get the job done, it's much more cost-efficient in k8s as the resources are shared between Pods. You don't have to have a dedicated server or VM with its own dedicated GPU to run your workflows. Managing multiple k8s clusters has the same methodology as Kubernetes itself. ✅ A management cluster to manage all of the clusters (the brains of the operation like a Control Plane). ✅ Registered clusters (the clusters you're sending workloads to, like Worker Nodes) From an open-source perspective, there's something called Open Cluster Management (OCM). It allows you to have one "brain" to send all of your workflows to (and you can combine it with a GitOps solution like ArgoCD).
