“Piyush is an excellent team player and great problem solver. I had a chance to work with him as a direct manager at Amdocs. Piyush is fun to work with and easy going. Piyush always used to take lead on customer issues and ensured they are resolved for good. He learned Amdocs billing-payment-collection platform quite fast and even went on to train some of our new hires. Piyush was always willing to help our own team members and tier-2 teams. I recommend Piyush to any team who are in search of a great mentor, problem solver and motivator.”

Your team needs to store data in the cloud. What's the most efficient way to do it?
In addition to above, efficiently monitoring cloud storage usage is essential for performance and cost control. Use native monitoring services like AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, or GCP Cloud Monitoring to track metrics like capacity, read/write operations, and latency. Set threshold alerts for each metric to receive notifications when specified limits are exceeded. Consider automated scaling and integrating alerts with incident management systems. Use third-party tools to enhance the monitoring process. Regularly review and optimize alerts to ensure they align with evolving requirements. Enable logging and periodically test the alerting system for effectiveness. Budget alerts can help manage storage costs effectively.

Your team needs to store data in the cloud. What's the most efficient way to do it?
Storage classification is crucial for efficient data management to save cost and cater to diverse storage needs in the cloud. Three main types are object storage: Object storage: Ideal for scalable and unstructured data such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob storage, and GCP Cloud Storage. We use this to store unstructured data, such as text, video, and images. For example, Dropbox was built on top of S3. Block Storage: Ideal for structured database storage, VM file system volumes, and high volumes of read and write loads such as Amazon EBS, GCP Persistent Disks, and Azure Disk. File Storage: Ideal for storing data in a hierarchical structure of files and folders such as Azure Files, AWS EFS, and GCP Filestore.

Your team needs to store data in the cloud. What's the most efficient way to do it?
Data storage begins with data classification. It categorizes data based on content, sensitivity, and importance. - Structured data is organized, like tables. Unstructured lacks structure, e.g., text or images. Semi-structured, like NoSQL, has some organization. - Criteria include sensitivity levels (restricted, confidential, non-confidential), and adherence to regulations (GDPR, HIPAA). This practice enhances data management and security. It is also crucial to understand the storage needs and purpose, such as frequently accessed data, in-frequent accessed data, regional/zonal storage requirements, and data for short-term archives and long-term archives. This helps effectively manage cost and data access needs.

What are the key challenges and best practices for scaling containers in the cloud?
One thing I have found most people struggle with when it comes to container management is; applying the best practices. Adopting a container orchestration system such as Kubernetes is one thing but applying best practices, requires a lot of skill and experience. For instance, when you create a deployment, not everyone uses the features such as resource requests and limits, and most of the time it led to the node crash or using excessive resources. Cost optimization also plays an important role when it comes to containers. for instance, if the company is using a local disk for the cluster to attain high performance, it could incur a lot of costs and the throughput could have been easily managed by a balanced persistent disk or an SSD.
