TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Tulsa has received national attention for a new program to get people and businesses to move here.
Billionaire George Kaiser offered 100 people the chance to move to Tulsa and be paid $10,000 to do it as part of the Tulsa Remote program.
Jenna Boyd is feeling a bit more comfortable these days. Instead of fighting her way through Los Angeles traffic, she's taking things one day at a time in Tulsa.
"I've kind of been thinking about life long term. Thinking that I don't want to spend all my time in Los Angeles. Of course, because of my job and what I do, I'm going to have to go back and forth a lot," said Boyd.
Boyd is an actress, appearing in movies like "Dickie Roberts," "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," and most recently, she plays Paige on the Netflix series "Atypical." She's able to make the move because nowadays, you don't necessarily have to live where you work.
"Casting offices that were three blocks from me were asking for self-tapes. I thought if that's the majority of what's going on, then I really do feel like I can confidently go split my time somewhere else," said Boyd.
Tulsa Remote was offering $10,000 cash for making the move to her and 99 other lucky applicants. Already, she's made herself at home, taking pictures at some of the city's landmarks.
"I think in LA, that big city, it's very much a culture of what have you done for me lately? I don't feel that way here. It still has that feeling of southern hospitality," said Boyd.
Boyd likes it so much that her parents and brother are considering moving out here, and because of that, she thinks the program will be a success.
"I think the hope for them is that they want people to be a part of the community, but why wouldn't you want to be? That's an awesome part of being in Tulsa Remote," said Boyd.
