[TW for antisemitic rhetoric.]

In which the Washington Times declares that there is a "pogrom" against conservative figures in general and Sarah Palin in particular, because people took exception to her using the term "blood libel." A pogrom.

(There's a link to the editorial itself in the linked blog post. It's, uh, something.)

I mean, I realize this is the Washington Times we're talking about here, but damn.

WHAT.

[TW for antisemitism, among other things.]

"Blood libel"? Seriously? Seriously???

Cue the inevitable protests from Sarah Palin about how that is totally not what she meant and some of her best friends are Jews and OMG stop being so meeeeeeean to her because she totally doesn't mean to be offensive and inflammatory except when she does. And of course anyone who calls her on it will be accused of dragging the discourse down or something, as if noticing when people say horrible things is worse than actually saying them. It's the same damn thing every time some right-wing pundit says something like this, and I'm sick of it.

(While I'm cribbing links from Shakesville, I also want to link to this, which sums up my own feelings about the "both sides are just as bad" argument pretty well.)

The rest of the speech is also pretty vile and packed with intellectual dishonesty, although that probably goes without saying. Interestingly, the wikipedia page on blood libel mentioned Palin's speech at one point, but as I'm writing this, it no longer does.

Note to self: The game is called Golden Sun, not Black Hole Sun.

Anyway, many apologies for the protracted radio silence; it's been that kind of, uh, month and a half. Eek. I will try to be more communicative in future.

Early in development, the main character in The Last Guardian was female, but the team ended up going with a boy. The reason: they thought it would be more realistic that he would have enough grip strength to be able to climb around, and because they wouldn't have to worry about camera angles with a girl who wears a skirt.

(From here)

See, there are these amazing things called trousers...

Also, the "lack of grip strength" argument is asinine; physical strength tends to vary from individual to individual anyway, and it's not like there aren't female athletes out there - including, get this, rock climbers. WTF, Team Ico.

There are times when I really, really hate so-called "gamer culture." This would be one of those times.

Holkins and Krahulik's response is really disappointing. (Also, to address one of their points: Fruit Fucker: really not funny, at least in my opinion.) And then, of course, various commenters from the forum apparently thought it was a good idea to demonstrate GIFT (warning: TVTropes link) in the comments to the above linked posts - granted, Shakesville's mods stepped in to stop the worst of it, but still. Way to go, PA.

Kitties! More kitties! Non-kitties! Big kitties!

...Okay, so it's probably obvious I haven't been having a good week.

Granted, the paper-ripping in that last link made me cringe a bit because my cat not only rips up paper but then tries to eat it, but the blissed-out leopard makes up for a lot.

What?

I mean, I'm not surprised that Mr. Fierce Advocate continues not to support same-sex marriage; that's not new. I just don't understand how not supporting same-sex marriage and supporting equality for gays and lesbians go together at all. Maybe it's an opposite-land logic thing.

(I also note there is no mention of the rest of those normally grouped under LGBTQI, i.e. bisexuals, transpeople, questioning, and intersex people, but that's not exactly a surprise either.)

...what.

I know I probably shouldn't be surprised that Etrian Odyssey/Seikaiju no MeiQ hentai doujinshi exists, and yet...

Note to whatshisname from that "Investor's Edge" spot that gets broadcast on the radio every Thursday: LEMMING SUICIDE IS A MYTH.

Goddammit, Disney.

These things bother me.

Not a baseball cap* this time. There are sample pages from the artbook here if anyone's interested.

*Persona 3 Portable's preorder bonus was a replica of Junpei's baseball cap. I mean, it seems like a pretty sturdy baseball cap and all, but... yeah.

I like how my level 45 protagonist has a strength stat of 25 while my level 38 pixie has a strength stat of 30. Awesome.

Current protagonist stats (level 45):
Strength: 25
Magic: 34
Vitality: 35
Agility: 23
Luck: 46

He's got a luck-based suit again; it's interesting to compare his stat growth in this runthrough to the last, where he also had a luck-based suit, but strength and luck leveled up more or less equally, while magic and agility did the same only less so, and vitality lagged way behind. I do have a bunch of incenses saved up from my previous three(!) runs, so if need be I can use some of those to boost his agility and strength. If I, you know, remember to use them, which I completely failed to do last game.

And the law ending is about as creepy as I was expecting.

Spoilers are glad that's out of the way. )

I forgot to record my ending stats, but at level 99 my protagonist had strength around 73, luck around 72, magic and agility in the mid to high 60s, and vitality bringing up the rear in the high 40s/low to mid 50s. Since the game shows them in the order strength-magic-vitality-agility-luck, the display was very symmetrical. My suit was luck-based this time.

How did I never notice that the "moving" walls in Strange Journey's last sector have dinosaurs, prehistoric fish, and other life forms floating in them? I think I saw a hominid of some sort, too. I mean, I'm only on my third pass through the game. You'd think I'd have stopped to look at some earlier point.

This has nothing to do with anything, really. I just thought it was interesting.
zoifox: (Raiho!)
Well, that was approximately as creepy as I expected.

Spoilers remain perturbed. )

Man. I've logged almost four hundred hours on this game. Which isn't as massive as my Disgaea 2 PS2 save, but still.
