Titel: Keine Ahnung
Autor: Alcina vom Steinsberg / [personal profile] winterwitch
Charaktere: Minerva McGonagall/Poppy Pomfrey
Rating: G
Wortzahl: ~ 300

“Was?

„Keine Ahnung.“

Dear [livejournal.com profile] therealsnape , best wishes to your birthday, and many happy returns! *hugs*

I hope Lord S. treats you to wonderful delights and you're having a splendid day!

My three-hour-train ride through the Black Forest made me come up with a little something that was initiated by your plumbing woes, so it's for you.

Poppy seethed. “I can't believe that thrice-be-damned plumber still didn't show up!”

Minerva set her cup down and lowered the newspaper. “What? Ah, the plumber. Well, yes, indeed,” she managed, offering her mug for a refill.

Knowing well enough that her partner needed at least two cups of tea in the morning until becoming her efficient and matter-of-fact self, Poppy joined Minerva at the breakfast table with a cup of her own..

“This time, it'll be a howler,” she promised the tardy magiplumber. “I'm totally fed up with having to vanish galleons of water from the courtyard first thing in the morning.”

Minerva grunted, reaching for her cup. She was extremely grateful to Poppy for looking after all the everyday necessities in their summer cottage, but having to listen to her whinge first thing in the morning was asking much even of her patience.

Suddenly, a pecking sound at the window made the women look up. Poppy got up to let the owl in, squinting hard to decipher the script on the scroll.

“You'll going to need reading glasses soon,” Minerva observed, trying to hide her smirk at her partner's cross expression.

Ignoring the jibe, Poppy unfurled the parchment, trying to hold it at a normal reading distance. Then her face lit up.

“Look there! A charm for unclogging pipes and drains! I didn't even know it existed. It's ancient, of course, but I bet you can do it. You can do charms in Medieval Latin, can't you? Count on Severus to dig up something like this and think of us -”

Poppy paused, thinking. “Minerva, do you know how Severus knows about our little problem?”
Minerva hastily raised the newspaper again, not wanting to show her face.

“I have no idea,” was all she managed.

I participated at [community profile] hp_worldcup_bets, where you could place a bet on the champion of the Soccer Worldcup, and win or lose drabbles. Well, I lost my bet and hat the painful duty to write a drabble about Minerva, Severus and sports. Oh what a hardship! *lol* I had such a great difficult time fulfilling this debt...

Well, who am I kidding. Indeed I had enormously fun with giving in to some old kink of mine - you'll see in a second.

Written for [personal profile] tetleythesecond, who won our little game, together with [personal profile] kelly_chambliss, who will like this, too, I hope - tough I drew tetley's prompt and pairing.

Note: My heartfelt thanks go to [personal profile] therealsnape for fast and effective beta-reading, making short work of my abysmal punctuation and weeding out all my weird ways of writing English. Any remaining mistakes are my own.

[livejournal.com profile] sigune has finished my second Snape-McGonagall-Comission!

A walk in the woods

I'm so happy about it; it's as perfect as I can wish it and gets so well to the heart of their relationship as I have it in my mind! Thank you so much, Sigune! *hugs* *dances with delight*.
I wanted Snape and McGonagall post-DH and to be seen as a couple, and I wanted them as I see them in my mind, not how they are shown in the movies. I wanted a tree as well, as I love Sigune's trees, and trees symbolize for me life, renewal, strength, continuity  and endurance. And the way they're holding hands is just marvellous.
ysilme: Wooden door handle shaped like a sperm whale on a red barn door. (Feder)
I've just read a lovely, little Minerva story by Cecelle, Icing on the cake. It's a young-Minerva-story, a small scene about her school years where she's doing something wonderful for her little sister.
ysilme: Wooden door handle shaped like a sperm whale on a red barn door. (Default)
I don't think I have talked here much before about films and/or Maggie Smith, or that I really love Dame Maggie Smith as an actress. Some very few actors like her or Alan Rickman I like so much that I try to watch every film I can get my hands on (and dream of seeing them on stage, of course, too, though that is generally far beyond my possibilities).

Yesterday, my darling dearest and me have started watching Evil under the sun from 1982. From the mystery point of view I prefer David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, and the Christie-films with him, though Peter Ustinov plays him really delightfully, too.
Maggie Smith plays an adorable Daphne here, though, and I really enjoyed and loved her in this role. She shows such a lively, beautiful, mature and wonderful woman (I have seen the film only halfway so far, so I wouldn't know about possible shadowy character sides as common with Agatha Christie ;o) ). She's 48 in the film, and I realized that, doing a fast switch to my private Potterverse, this is exactly the age I depict Minerva McGonagall during the Harry-Potter-Years at Hogwarts. I find my general assumption confirmed that indeed a witch of about 70 does not have and show the age of a 70-year-old-muggle, but rather of a womand about 20 years younger. Trying to put Daphne Castle in witches robes and changing her hairdo and -colour, I think she would hit "my" Minerva McGonagall off very nicely.
ysilme: Wooden door handle shaped like a sperm whale on a red barn door. (Default)
Alas, no new drabbles today, too, I'm afraid. But at least four more are in my beta's hands.

Yesterday, I have discovered two fanarts that give my mental image of Minerva a new dimension, so to say:

Minerva and Dolores and a Portrait of Minerva by ehay on deviantart.

As I just posted on close contrast(a LJ community for the fans of Minerva McGonagall and Severus Snape, check it out in case you don't know it yet: we're just reworking the master list of links with lots of lovely fanart and fanfiction on it), these arts made me thinking about my own mental image of Minerva and Severus. Ehay's work has given my imagination of Minerva as a women, a lover and a partner much more deepness and colour, so to speak.

I don't know about you - but my mental image of either Minerva and Severus are rather different from the usual fandom images, particularly from the movie characters.
Don't misunderstand me - I dearly love Maggie Smith as Minerva and Alan Rickman as Severus, as I love both actors very much and admire the way they brougth both characters to live. And my mental images of both are highly influenced on both's performance, though less on the view they give me, rather the way they act and colour the book character.

My own mental, "optical" images are much closer to the book descriptions than the movie characters, though. A good example is the fanart by Sigune, "Her Glasses" - done after my descriptions after all *g*a and catching my ideas extremely well. Though the fanart might puzzle a bit because it's Snape wearing her glasses at this moment.
