A volunteer at huge charity store in Bradford wants more people to know about the fantastic work the centre does - and all the quality products on offer.
St Vincent’s Centre Bradford, based at Allenby House on Rees Way in Barkerend, supports people in need with free advice and recycled household goods.
It offers free services to the area and beyond, alongside a well-stocked charity shop selling everything from women’s dresses and musical instruments to sofas.
The centre helps Bradford residents with welfare, housing and debt.
Ivor wants to see more residents swing by
Ivor Allen first discovered the shop when his daughter brought him in.
He came into the shop as a customer before later becoming a volunteer.
Described by colleagues as a “character", Ivor calls the shop “BD3’s best-kept secret” and hopes more locals will visit, even just for a chat.
What does St Vincent's do?
The charity provides services to ease the impact of poverty on local people.
They also work to promote social interaction.
The centre's website reads: "Every donation made or spare hour given volunteering helps us make a massive difference in someone's life.
"Our services are varied as they reflect Bradford's vibrant and diverse community.
"We help everyone regardless of their faith, beliefs, gender, age, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation or marital status."
What does it sell?
St Vincent’s “superstore” sells affordable, quality recycled furniture and household goods, including white goods, through its volunteer-led team.
Its shops sell affordable clothing, accessories, kitchen appliances, books, CDs and household goods.
The website says: "We run the store with a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time to give a warm welcome to all and keep our shop running and regularly host events for the local community, giving people the opportunity to socialise and celebrate."
St Vincent’s moved all its services to Allenby House in 2013, creating a one-stop hub for advice, support and affordable household goods.
Need for donations
The centre is appealing for beds, bedding, tables, chairs, kettles, microwaves, cots, prams, dressers, wardrobes, drawers, clothing, toys, ornaments and bric-a-brac.
The website says: "We will gladly send out our vans to collect big furniture items from you.
"If you only have small items such as bags of clothing for example, then please take them to one of our shops, all donations will be gladly received."
Shop sales help fund the centre’s advice and support services for people most in need.
People can contact St Vincent’s Centre Bradford for information about its services, volunteering or donating items.
