Thank you for contacting the University of Maryland Brain and Tissue Bank. Beginning July 13, 2026 UMBTB will be experiencing a short-term staffing shortage. The email and phone line will continue to be monitored but there may be a delay in response to all communications.
The University of Maryland Brain and Tissue Bank (UMBTB) is a centralized repository for the collection and distribution of brain tissue for medical research. We work to arrange for the retrieval of tissue upon the death of individuals while at home, in hospitals, or in hospice care across the U.S.
Additionally, we can assist physicians and researchers who are working with patients who intend to donate tissues at the time of their death. Brain tissue donation for medical research allows for advancements in the understanding of disorders targeting the nervous system, such as developmental, neurological, and movement disorders.
