Briumvi strength
Briumvi comes in one strength of 150 milligrams per 6 milliliters of solution (25 mg/mL) in a single-dose vial.
Briumvi is approved to treat relapsing forms of MS. Your doctor will likely prescribe the following recommended Briumvi infusion schedule:
- First infusion: 150 mg
- Second infusion: 450 mg, given 2 weeks after your first infusion
- Maintenance infusions: 450 mg, given 24 weeks after your first infusion. You’ll continue to receive 450 mg by infusion every 24 weeks (6 months)
Always follow your prescribing doctor’s instructions. Notify them if you experience any side effects that may prevent you from continuing Briumvi treatment.
Briumvi is administered by a doctor, nurse, or other healthcare professional as an IV infusion (an injection into a vein given slowly over time). You’ll typically receive this medication in a clinical setting, such as a hospital or infusion clinic.
Briumvi infusion times vary — your first infusion usually takes at least 4 hours. Your second and maintenance infusions usually take about 1 hour or longer.
Infusion reactions and premedications
For some people, receiving medication in a vein can cause a reaction. Infusion reactions can be mild or serious and even life threatening.
To help reduce the risk of a reaction, your doctor may give you certain medications before each infusion. You’ll also stay with your infusion care team for at least 1 hour after your first and second infusions, so they can monitor you for symptoms of this side effect. If you have an infusion reaction, your doctor may stop the infusion.
Your doctor may also advise monitoring subsequent infusions, depending on how your body reacts to the first two infusions. If you have questions about infusion reactions, talk with your doctor.
How long does Briumvi treatment last?
Briumvi is usually a long-term treatment. If you and your doctor determine that it’s safe and effective for your condition, you’ll likely use it long term.
