No More Dead Screens: AI, Reliability with Mark McDermott In this episode of The AI Advantage, Matt Brown talks with ScreenCloud co founder and CEO Mark McDermott about how AI is transforming an overlooked channel: the humble screen. Mark explains how ScreenCloud powers digital signage networks for more than 10,000 customers, especially in manufacturing and logistics, and why the real opportunity is not selling more products, but communicating better with deskless workers who never sit at a laptop. He unpacks how ScreenCloud uses AI to keep massive screen fleets online, automatically fix issues at the edge, and convert messy internal content into simple, screen ready messages that workers can absorb in seconds. Mark and Matt also explore the talent side of AI: why most applicants now “sound the same,” how AI is both filtering and generating CVs, and what individuals must do to avoid becoming “the great ignored” in the job market.

A McDonald's drive thru menu board froze at 12:14pm on a Saturday. By 1pm the store had lost roughly $1,800 in orders and dropped three promos because staff couldn't remember the prices. The screen looked fine. The software behind it had quietly stopped talking to the cloud. Digital signage is the largest category of screen most people never think about. Menu boards, retail promos, transit displays, waiting room screens between 15 and 20 million commercial displays running managed content right now. Every deployment has four layers, and most networks quietly fail on the last one: → A media player bolted to the back of the screen → A cloud CMS pushing content and schedules → A sync layer that works over unreliable retail WiFi → A monitoring layer that alerts someone when a screen goes dark Three questions worth asking any vendor before signing: 1. What happens to a screen when its internet drops for six hours? 2. How does the operator get alerted when a screen goes dark? 3. How does content change from breakfast to lunch, automated schedule, or someone manually swapping playlists at 11am? The answers reveal whether the vendor is selling software or selling hope. Running screens across sites? Happy to talk about how to keep them from going dark.

Wilyer® Digital Signage Software: DOOH CMS, QMS, Meeting Room Booking System for AV Companies

In 2019, I noticed digital advertising screens and immediately wondered about the backend: how do control systems seamlessly distribute assets across hundreds of displays. So I recorded a short walkthrough of the software we built at Wilyer for exactly that, media owners running screens for advertising. A few things I show in it: → Bring every screen and operating system into one dashboard, grouped by area → Give one brand a slot, and rotate a different creative every single loop, automatically → Hand any advertiser a playback report: which ad ran, how many times, on which screen, and when → Blank a billboard at night, dim outdoor screens for compliance, take a live screenshot of any screen → Upload every artwork size once, and the right size lands on the right screen From airport networks and billboards to malls, metros and supermarkets, this is the software that runs the business behind the screens. If you run an ad screen network, I'd love to know: what's the hardest part of managing it today? #DOOH #DigitalSignage #OutOfHome #AdTech #Wilyer

Enabling Retail, Hospitality & QSR Brands to Scale Digital Experiences Through Trusted Partners | Videri Ask Me How! 20+ Years Digital Signage Knowledge | Very Average Golfer

Scaling store screen networks usually breaks control first. Not because teams don’t care. Because the foundations weren’t designed to scale. Screens get rolled out fast. Content volume increases. More teams get involved. And suddenly: Playback becomes an assumption. Governance gets blurry. Failures surface only after complaints. Lots of activity. Very little certainty. Reliable in-store digital doesn’t scale through effort. It scales through control. That’s why the strongest networks are built around a few multipliers that work together: ➜ Deployment discipline so installs don’t create future risk ➜ Playback certainty so you know what actually ran, not what was planned ➜ Governance control so permissions protect the brand by default ➜ Network visibility so issues are seen in real time, not discovered later Control comes from doing a few things consistently. Standardising the architecture to remove fragile components. Centralising publishing rules into one source of truth. Verifying execution continuously with live status and proof. This is what separates calm networks from chaotic ones. The best operators treat screens as infrastructure, not décor. They rely on evidence, not slide decks. And they align Marketing, IT, and Ops around the same control layer. Because buyers aren’t asking about features first anymore. They’re asking what happens when something breaks. How fast it’s spotted. Who gets alerted? And whether it can be fixed remotely with proof. If this framework resonates, repost ♻️ it to help someone in your network. - Darren Cremins 🔔

Trace Network & Engineering Pvt Ltd What is Digital Signage? Digital signage works by displaying multimedia content (like images, videos, or messages) on digital screens — such as TVs, LED walls, or monitors — that are controlled and updated through software. Here’s a simple breakdown of how it works: --- 🧩 1. Core Components Digital signage has four main parts: 1. Display Screen: The physical screen where the content appears (e.g., LED display, LCD monitor, or video wall). 2. Media Player: A small computer or device connected to the display that runs the content (sometimes built into the display). Examples: Android box, Windows player, or cloud-based player. 3. Content Management System (CMS): Software (cloud or local) used to create, schedule, and manage the content shown on the screens. Examples: PeopleLink, NoviSign, Xibo, or BrightSign. 4. Network Connection (LAN/Wi-Fi/4G): Connects the player and CMS, allowing remote updates and real-time control. --- ⚙️ 2. How It Works – Step by Step 1. Content Creation: You design your content (ads, announcements, menus, videos, etc.) using templates or custom media. 2. Upload to CMS: The content is uploaded to the content management system. 3. Scheduling: You choose when and where each piece of content will play (for example, morning menu vs. evening menu). 4. Content Delivery: The CMS sends the content over the network to the media player connected to each display. 5. Display on Screen: The media player decodes the content and plays it on the digital screen according to your schedule. 6. Monitoring and Updates: The system allows you to monitor screen status, update content anytime, and collect analytics (like playtime or viewer engagement). --- 🖥️ Example: In a retail store, digital signage can: Display promotional videos, Show daily offers, Change messages instantly across all stores via the cloud. --- 💡 Bonus Features in Modern Systems Interactive touch screens Real-time data (news, weather, social feeds) AI-based content suggestions Remote monitoring and diagnostics Integration with cameras or sensors for targeted ads
