“In January, my big brother, Ian, was diagnosed with stage IV mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lungs. He is an athletic, non-smoking 36-year-old, so this came as quite a shock. The diagnosis was also less than four months after Ian and his wife, Lauren, welcomed their first child, my nephew, John. We all felt so helpless and lost.” “I didn’t know what I could do to help, to make it better. I always admired the runners in the Boston Marathon® who ran for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, but I didn’t consider myself a runner and a marathon felt like too much. When sign-ups opened for the Falmouth Road Race, I thought, ‘7 miles…I could probably do that!’ I registered, and with that, I became a runner.” “I have always looked up to Ian. Watching his lung capacity dwindle and seeing him struggle to walk up a flight of stairs has been heartbreaking. It made me even more grateful that I get to use my lungs to run miles and raise awareness and money for the treatments helping him. After we lost him four years ago, I knew I wanted to honor his legacy in a meaningful way.” “July 4th, 2026, would have been Mike’s 60th birthday, and I think about that every time I lace up. I run for Mike, for his four children, and for everyone whose life has been affected by cancer. Last year, cancer touched me directly, and going through diagnosis and treatment gave me a whole new perspective.
