Energy poverty isn't a single problem. It encompasses access to lower-income countries, affordability in higher-income ones, and reliability in between. Our recent report traces each challenge to a different set of conditions. Lower-income countries often lack grid access altogether. Higher-income countries have access but face prices that put basic energy needs out of reach for some households. Middle-income countries frequently have grid connections that are unreliable when demand peaks. The research points to distributed generation and community participation as ways to improve access and resilience. It also argues that energy projects should be evaluated against their broader social, economic, and environmental effects. Access the report in the comments #EnergyPoverty #Grid #FutureOfEnergy

Drawing on EU-SILC and OECD housing data, the report explores who and why is most affected, and how poor insulation, inefficient heating systems, low energy performance, as well as ongoing policy efforts are linked to #householdvulnerability across the EU Member States. The report also highlights where building inefficiency and #energypoverty overlap, providing valuable insights to help target #renovation support and #financing more effectively. Low energy performance in residential buildings is among the main factors driving energy poverty in the EU. ➡️ Vulnerable households are more likely to inhabit energy-inefficient buildings, with poor thermal insulation and inefficient or absent heating and cooling systems. ➡️ These factors contribute to raising energy bills, driving vulnerable households to restrict their energy use below levels necessary for comfort, health, and well-being. A recent Energy Poverty Advisory Hub (EPAH) report examines how energy efficiency in residential buildings shapes energy poverty outcomes across the EU, presenting recommendations and best practices to help address energy poverty. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eXZb_tKv #EnergyPoverty #EPAH #JustTransition

What does tackling fuel poverty look like in practice? It starts with robust, real-world evidence. 🏡⚡ We were delighted to welcome the UK Government's Committee on Fuel Poverty to Energy House Labs, where Professor Richard Fitton, our Technical Director of Energy House 2.0 and a member of the Committee, led discussions on the role of building performance in creating warmer, more energy-efficient homes. The visit showcased how we're testing retrofit solutions, insulation, heat pumps and domestic energy systems under controlled, repeatable conditions helping generate the evidence needed to inform policy, improve retrofit decisions and support the transition to low-carbon homes. A big thank you to the Committee for visiting our facilities and to everyone involved in making the day a success. We look forward to continuing to work with partners across government, industry and academia to tackle fuel poverty through innovation and evidence-led research. #EnergyHouseLabs #FuelPoverty #BuildingPerformance #Retrofit #HeatPumps #EnergyEfficiency #LowCarbonHomes #NetZero

Fuel poverty remains a challenge for millions of households across the UK, but choosing the right heating solution can make a real difference. We explore some of the most common misconceptions around fuel poverty and electric heating, including: • Why modern electric heating shouldn't be compared to outdated systems. • How high-efficiency electric boilers and heat retention radiators can help reduce running costs. • The importance of choosing the right system for the property and its occupants.
