Horizon Aircraft has selected RAMPF Composite Solutions to manufacture the fuselage for its full-scale Cavorite X7 hybrid-electric eVTOL. This partnership marks a key step from design to production, with RAMPF tasked to build the main body using advanced lightweight carbon fiber and fiberglass materials. The collaboration supports Horizon's timeline to assemble the prototype in 2026 and begin flight testing in early 2027. Both companies are based in Ontario, Canada, enabling closer quality control and real-time engineering collaboration. RAMPF, a subsidiary of the German RAMPF Group, specializes in aerospace composite parts designed to meet strict weight limits and withstand harsh conditions. Horizon's CEO Brandon Robinson highlighted RAMPF's industry-leading manufacturing capabilities as essential for bringing the Cavorite X7 fuselage to life. The Cavorite X7 targets the Regional Air Mobility market with a seven-seat hybrid-electric design featuring a patented Fan-in-Wing system. It aims for a range of approximately 800 kilometers and a top speed of 450 km/h. Horizon recently secured over $24 million in funding and a $10.5 million grant to support all-weather flight system development, positioning the company to meet certification standards and operational goals. Manufacturing scale is a critical determinant in the transition of Advanced Air Mobility from development programs to sustained commercial operations. Joby Aviation has announced the acquisition of a second manufacturing facility in the Dayton, Ohio region, adding more than 700,000 square feet of production capacity. The facility is expected to support increased aircraft output while providing additional flexibility for long-term growth as certification and operational milestones advance. Nidec Aerospace, a joint venture between Japan’s Nidec Corporation and Brazil’s Embraer, has established a new strategic hub in Atlanta, Georgia. This facility is dedicated to accelerating the development, integration, and certification of Electric Propulsion Units for Advanced Air Mobility. Located in a major aerospace ecosystem, the Atlanta hub supports projects from concept through certification and service, aiming to shorten development cycles for eVTOL and eSTOL aircraft. Its proximity to Georgia Tech enables collaboration with specialized research centers like the Center for Urban and Regional Air Mobility and the Aircraft Prototyping Laboratory, both engaged in NASA-partnered projects. The hub also strengthens support for Nidec’s launch customer, Eve Air Mobility, facilitating final hardware certification efforts. This move positions Nidec Aerospace to provide responsive engineering support during critical certification campaigns as the electric aviation sector grows and moves toward mass production.
