The total value of Raytheon’s contract to supply next-generation radar systems for US Navy vessels could rise from $1.8 billion to $3.3 billion. At present, two ships in active operational service with the American fleet carry variants of the RTX subsidiary’s SPY-6 radar. They are the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Richard M. McCool Jr. and the first Flight III Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Jack H. Lucas. Versions of the SPY-6 radar have also been installed on a further 11 warships, all of which are currently undergoing pre-commissioning tests and sea trials. The US Navy awarded V2X Inc an $87 million contract to repair and overhaul SUU-79 wing pylons across the F/A-18 Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fleets. These underwing hardware mounts carry the aircraft's primary weapons and stores. V2X has supported these components since the original Hornet hit the fleet in the 1980s, and this work will run out of Indianapolis through January 2030. Catapult launches and heavy weapons loads place massive structural fatigue on wing pylons over time. As the Navy stretches the operational life of its Super Hornets to bridge the gap to next-generation airframes, keeping high-wear hardware combat-ready is critical. The SUU-79 is a critical underwing subsystem that enables F/A-18 aircraft to carry and deploy weapons and other stores. V2X has supported the sustainment of Navy F/A-18 systems, including pylons, since the aircraft entered service in the 1980s. Under the contract, V2X will overhaul and modernize the pylons using advanced repair and lifecycle sustainment techniques, extending their service life and supporting frontline naval aviation operations.

Testing will now move from laboratory trials to operational evaluations aboard navy ships and at shore-based facilities. Engineers will assess whether the company’s software platform can be deployed, managed, and maintained in real naval environments, including air-gapped and disconnected networks.

🇺🇸🚀 The GBU-75 Joint Direct Attack Munition Long Range (JDAM LR) program has been cleared to enter initial production. The milestone follows a $75-million undefinitized contract action awarded to Boeing to manufacture the JDAM LR’s BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Units for the US Navy. 💡 JDAM LR can travel at distances greater than 300 nautical miles while carrying a 500-pound-class payload.
