Shovels are in the ground, and construction is officially underway at NEXTDC S4 Sydney 👏 The milestone was marked with an official sod turning alongside NEXTDC Group Chief Development Officer Simon Cooper and a smoking ceremony led by Uncle Colin Locke. In the months ahead, the team will install the first of six tower cranes. Tower Crane 1 will be the largest tower crane ever used on a Multiplex site, a Marr M2480D, to support construction of the 350 megawatt data centre. With the team using the latest innovative modular construction methods to accelerate the build, the crane will lift major elements into place, including prefabricated mechanical plantrooms, electrical switch rooms and major services pathways, alongside extensive precast elements. S4 Sydney is the fourth project to be delivered by Multiplex in New South Wales for NEXTDC, and there are exciting times ahead as we bring this AI-ready facility out of the ground! #builttooutperform #NEXTDC
The scale of the modular construction here is remarkable — prefabricated mechanical plantrooms, electrical switch rooms, and major services pathways all pre-fabricated off-site and lifted into position. For data centre projects at this scale, precision in the fabrication and installation sequence is everything. We have supported construction firms with detailed component models and mockups on similar complex infrastructure projects where the off-site fabrication tolerances are measured in millimetres.
Shovels in the ground on a 350MW facility is a massive milestone! 🏗️ Data centres of this scale, especially with the use of the Marr M2480D, require an elite level of coordination. Lifting prefabricated mechanical plantrooms and major services pathways puts a huge emphasis on the precision of the early-stage detailing and structural interfaces. Great to see Multiplex and NEXTDC pushing the boundaries of modular construction!
350MW data center, modular construction, the largest tower crane ever on a Multiplex site. Sequencing prefabricated modules with crane lifts and precast elements on a program like this is where schedule precision separates good delivery from great delivery.
What a milestone, congratulations to the entire team at Multiplex and NEXTDC! A 350MW AI-ready facility is an incredible undertaking, and the use of modular construction methods alongside the Marr M2480D is a great example of innovation driving efficiency at scale. The sod turning with Uncle Colin Locke was a great touch, too. Exciting to watch this one come out of the ground! 🏗️ As
Exciting to see S4 Sydney breaking ground with cutting-edge construction methods. Looking forward to the delivery of Australia’s next major AI-ready data centre!
As we close out our electrical supply to the sub stations for Huntingwood along comes another bad boy! Love it 👌
An impressive achievement and a significant step forward. Looking forward to seeing this development come to life over the months ahead.
How can i work with you
Congratulations Multiplex 💯
Massive project, congrats to the whole team 👏 A 350MW data centre with that level of modular construction and the Marr M2480D going up… that’s serious lifting and coordination on site. With this many complex lifts and multiple crews working together, it really highlights how critical clear communication is between the crane operator and ground crew. Great to see projects like this pushing innovation and setting the standard for how major builds should be delivered safely. Looking forward to seeing S4 Sydney rise out of the ground 💪
