Lone Worker Safety Best Practices for Security Operations

🔒 Lone Worker Safety: What Every Security Operator Must Get Right Deploying officers who work alone is one of the most common — and most underestimated — risk factors in contract security. Here are the lone worker best practices every operation should have in place: ✅ Timed check-ins — Set intervals of 15–30 minutes. A missed check-in is a potential emergency — treat it that way. ✅ Written escalation protocol — Who gets called? In what order? At what point does 911 get involved? Document it and train to it. ✅ Location reporting — Officers should report their location before beginning any solo patrol or inspection. ✅ Site-specific post orders — Lone worker procedures must be written into each post order — not left to assumption. ✅ Emergency contact access — Every officer should have immediate access to supervisor and emergency contacts at all times. ✅ Near-miss reporting — Log every close call. They are warning signs of a preventable incident. Your clients trust you to protect their assets. Your officers trust you to protect them.
