Airport operations generate massive amounts of data, but too often, that data is fragmented across systems, teams, and workflows. For airport teams, that can mean slower issue resolution, inefficient maintenance, underused space, wasted energy, and less visibility into the systems that keep passengers moving. Autodesk Tandem helps bring asset, operational, and occupancy data together in a connected digital twin, giving teams the clarity they need to monitor performance, respond faster to disruptions, and make smarter decisions across the airport. From facility management to airfield operations, commercial planning, and capital investment, see how digital twins can help turn airport complexity into operational clarity. The Digital Twin Deployment Gap: Why Most Airport Programmes Are Still Stuck in Pilot... Every aviation conference now has a digital twin session. Most of those programmes are still stuck in pilot... San Francisco International runs one of the more mature examples. Its integrated operations centre layers live flight, security checkpoint, terminal congestion and even highway traffic data over more than 600,000 mapped infrastructure features. That is not a dashboard. That is an operational nervous system... The financial case behind this is real. Real-time tracking of ground equipment and crews has cut aircraft turn times by 5 to 12 minutes at some hubs. One extra rotation a day per gate can be worth 15 to 25 million dollars a year in aeronautical revenue. Predictive maintenance programmes built on the same data are reporting 15 to 25 percent in savings... So why are only four hubs, Dubai, Singapore, Amsterdam and Heathrow, actually past the pilot stage? In the US, Dallas Fort Worth is the only large hub with board-approved funding. Every other major US airport is still evaluating... The constraint was never the AI. It is the plumbing underneath it: construction drawings that won't standardise across contractors, legacy systems that were never built to export usable data, and finance teams that can't cleanly separate the CAPEX from the OPEX. I have watched the same pattern play out inside ELV and BMS integration long before anyone called it a digital twin... The airports pulling ahead didn't buy an AI platform first. They fixed their data governance and system integration first, then layered intelligence on top. That sequencing is the part nobody puts on the conference slide... What is actually holding digital twin adoption back in your market, the technology, or the data behind it? #SmartAirports #DigitalTwin #AviationTechnology #SystemsIntegration #AirportOperations Watad Group

Air Traffic Control depends on clear communication. But modern Voice Communication Systems do far more than connect pilots and controllers. Today's systems integrate radio, telephone, intercom, recording, conferencing and remote communications into a single operational environment, helping controllers manage information efficiently while maintaining complete situational awareness. Scalable architecture, built-in redundancy and intuitive user interfaces ensure airports are prepared for both today's traffic levels and tomorrow's operational demands. Reliable communication is one of the foundations of safe aviation, not just a convenience. #VoiceCommunications #ATC #AirportTechnology #AirTrafficManagement #Engineering #Copperchase

As ports, airports and logistics yards become more connected and data-driven, lighting is no longer just about visibility. It is becoming one connected part of the industrial infrastructure. High-mast and area lighting can support safer operations, clearer monitoring, and more reliable visual conditions for cameras, inspection teams and future automated systems. For lighting manufacturers, the opportunity is not to claim we are building automation. It is to provide stable illumination, intelligent control options, and reliable lighting infrastructure that can work together with smarter industrial environments. In the age of Physical AI and industrial automation, lighting may not be the whole system — but it can be an important link in the chain. #HighMastLighting #IndustrialLighting #SmartInfrastructure #PortLighting #AirportLighting

I always enjoy discussions that look beyond today's challenges and focus on what comes next. Recently, I hosted an Interchange webinar with James Hammett, Managing Director of UKTram, and Robert Thomas from Siemens Mobility, exploring whether a tram system being built today can meet tomorrow's customer demand. In this video, I share my three biggest takeaways from the conversation. If you'd like to dive deeper into the discussion, the full webinar is available via the link in the comments. #LightRail #UrbanMobility #PublicTransport #TransportInnovation #Interchange #PeopleYouCanTrustWithRailTransformation

The next step towards greater energy efficiency is here: at Frankfurt Airport, we recently overhauled the navigation lighting for our Northwest Runway's centerline and touchdown zones, converting the previous halogen-based system to modern LED technology. 💡 Over just three nights, our airfield technicians replaced a total of 560 lights with state-of-the-art LEDs. The new system has almost halved power consumption for runway lighting, reducing it from 36,240 watts to just 17,900 watts. Carbon emissions have also been significantly reduced: while the previous halogen lighting generated around 101.5 tonnes of CO2 over an annual operating period of 8,000 hours, the new LED technology produces only around 50.1 tonnes per year. Christian Weinerth from Fraport's Airfield Technology Asset Management adds: "This changeover will help to significantly enhance both energy efficiency and safety in flight operations. The new LED technology will provide pilots with even greater visibility on their landing approaches at Frankfurt Airport." #ConnectingTheWorldWithTomorrow #fraport #FrankfurtAirport

Airports are among the world's most complex logistical ecosystems. ✈️ Every day, thousands of passengers move through terminals, making seamless passenger flow essential for both operational efficiency and a positive travel experience. 🛄 Microsimulation helps planners design, test, and optimize these complex environments before changes are implemented. It can be used to evaluate everything from gate layouts and walking distances to security screening, baggage handling, and lounge operations. By identifying potential bottlenecks early, airports can optimize staffing for peak and off-peak periods, improve passenger flow, and even test emergency evacuation and crowd management strategies to enhance safety and resilience. The video below shows the complete passenger journey through an airport security checkpoint: from the central queue and baggage preparation to body scanning, tray transport, waiting areas, and the collection of personal belongings. The simulation supports the analysis of: ➡️ Queue formation and checkpoint capacity ➡️ Lane allocation and dedicated passenger flows ➡️ Passenger and tray synchronization ➡️ Waiting times at each process step ➡️ Alternative layouts and operational scenarios With simulation, airports can make data-driven decisions that improve both operational performance and the passenger experience.

For government agencies, the pressure isn't just to build more, it's to run what already exists more efficiently. DFW's approach shows what that looks like in practice: using digital tools and AI to shift maintenance and operations from reactive to proactive, getting more value out of existing infrastructure and assets. Our work with DFW International Airport offers a useful reference point for any organization thinking about how to modernize operations without waiting on new capital. https://bit.ly/4w8lD46
