Monica Youngman’s Post

It was my honor to speak at Esri's UC Plenary yesterday in San Diego and share the story of Asheville and Hurricane Helene as well as the great work we're doing at the National Weather Service to ensure every community has the data and information they need to prepare for and respond to extreme events. A HUGE thank you to the #NWS teams that have supported this work as well as the staff from #MITRE and #Esri. #EsriUC2026

Great presentation! Thanks for sharing your story! I had the Central Texas floods from 2025 in my mind during your talk. Earlier this year at a storm spotter conference in Arlington, TX, I saw a NWS met from the Austin office discuss the scenario that led to that unfortunate incident. Different scenario but the message is the same, trying to help save more lives in these extreme flood events.

Absolutely stellar job Monica!!! Thank you again!!!

A powerful hurricane and story - I am glad you were able to lead that presentation with your personal experience - it connects the human aspect to the hazard impacts. Well done.

Thank you for sharing such an informative and inspirational story. Your words reinforced why you do what you do, and why we do what we do. Thank you again.

Incredible work! Keep it up!

I'm so so proud of you and the work you do!

I enjoyed your talk so much. You’re doing such important work and your passion for more insight and understanding before an event really came through.
