Emma Leavy's path from managing a $160M poverty-focused grants portfolio to venture investing as an investor at Gratitude Railroad gave her a perspective I don't hear often enough in capital markets. During our Wallet Max Planet Positive Podcast conversation, one theme kept resurfacing: The biggest opportunities don't sit within sectors. They sit at the intersection of systems. Climate. Health. Financial inclusion. Infrastructure. Technology. We often treat these as separate conversations. They're not. 🎯 One insight that stood out was the idea that the next wave of impact investing will be far more integrated than siloed. The strongest opportunities are increasingly emerging where economic, social, and environmental outcomes overlap. We also discussed the current private markets landscape. Despite ongoing volatility, Emma remains optimistic about long-term opportunities, particularly where disciplined capital can support real-world problems and resilient business models. And when it comes to AI, her perspective was refreshingly practical. The real value isn't in the hype. It's in using technology to create capabilities, insights, and outcomes that weren't previously possible. Perhaps my biggest takeaway was this: Capital alone rarely drives transformation. Communities, relationships, and ecosystems often determine which companies successfully scale and create lasting impact. It is rare to find such possitive and hopeful narrative in the VC world.
