- [Narrator] A measure is a plan or course of action taken to achieve a particular purpose. A security measure, specifically, is a precaution taken against threats such as theft, espionage, or sabotage. Once you have decided which control families to include in your core security set, you then have to outline how to measure success. These measures can come from the frameworks you have chosen to leverage, looking at their controls and how they recommend measuring them. Let me walk you through an example. If I look at personnel security as a control family, I need to determine how I'll measure effective procedures for the personnel lifecycle, from hire through to separation. There are countless measures you could implement. You could require that all new hires complete a background check prior to beginning work, and document the process to ensure that all access is removed at the end of that individual's employment.
