Overview
The Senior Fleet Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, governance, and performance of the company’s fleet and transportation operations across multiple Network Connex locations. This role owns fleet strategy, asset lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, and cost optimization, while serving as the primary subject‑matter expert for fleet, DOT, and FMCSA compliance. The Senior Fleet Manager partners closely with Operations, Safety (TSQ), Human Resources (HR), Finance, and Executive Leadership to ensure fleet decisions support business growth, safety, and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Strategy & Asset Lifecycle
Own the end‑to‑end lifecycle of all fleet assets, including vehicle specification, acquisition, utilization, maintenance strategy, replacement planning, and disposition
Establish fleet standards and governance models that ensure consistency, accountability, and scalability across regions and business units
Align fleet capacity and asset mix with operational demand and long‑term business strategy
Financial Oversight & Cost Control
Develop and manage fleet operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost discipline and transparency
Monitor total cost of ownership (TCO), fuel spend, maintenance expense, and utilization metrics, implementing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Lead vendor negotiations for vehicle purchases, leases, maintenance programs, fuel programs, and related services
Compliance, Safety & Risk Management
Serve as the organization’s fleet compliance authority, ensuring adherence to DOT, FMCSA, CDL, and related regulatory requirements
Partner with the Vice President of TSQ to analyze driver behavior, identify risk trends, and assign corrective training programs
Oversee accident investigations, claims coordination, and corrective action plans to reduce repeat incidents and exposure
Ensure fleet documentation, driver qualifications, and vehicle records are audit‑ready at all times
Fleet Operations & Maintenance Governance
Establish and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs to maximize uptime, safety, and asset longevity
Provide escalation leadership for complex fleet issues, including breakdowns, chronic maintenance failures, or vendor performance concerns
Define standards for vehicle assignment, usage, and accountability, ensuring drivers meet licensing, training, and authorization requirements
Technology, Telematics & Data Analytics
Lead the governance of fleet management systems (FMS), telematics, and telemetry platforms
Use fleet and driver data to drive performance improvement, compliance monitoring, and executive decision‑making
Ensure telematics data is leveraged proactively rather than reactively, with clear reporting and accountability
Leadership, Training & Cross‑Functional Partnership
Lead, mentor, and develop fleet personnel, setting expectations and performance standards
Deliver fleet training programs for drivers, managers, and operational leaders through in‑person and virtual formats
Act as the primary fleet liaison to Operations, Finance, HR, Safety, and Executive Leadership
Reporting & Executive Communication
Provide regular reporting on fleet performance, compliance status, utilization, cost trends, and risk exposure
Translate operational fleet data into clear business insights and recommendations for senior leadership
Qualifications & Skills
Extensive experience leading fleet and transportation operations across multiple locations
Advanced knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, CDL, and fleet compliance requirements
Proven experience managing fleet budgets, vendor contracts, and large asset portfolios
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to translate data into strategy
High level of proficiency with fleet management systems, telematics platforms, and Microsoft Office tools
Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional teams and operate effectively at both operational and executive levels
Preferred Qualifications
Hands‑on experience with telematics platforms such as GeoTab and Samsara
Prior use of enterprise fleet management systems including Element, Fleetio, Merchants, or Holman Insights
Background in fleet audits, regulatory inspections, safety programs, and emergency response management
Experience supporting growth, integration, or standardization across decentralized or multi‑region fleets
