We are looking for an HR Compliance & Employee Relations Manager for a multi-location specialty retail organization in Southern California. This role owns workplace investigations, workers’ compensation, and employment compliance. The right person sees HR as a true business partner that helps drive results through strong people practices and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct complex workplace investigations (harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations)
Oversee all aspects of workers’ compensation claims — intake, reporting, case management, and return-to-work coordination
Monitor claim trends and partner with leadership on risk mitigation strategies
Provide guidance to managers on employment issues, documentation, and corrective actions
Serve as liaison with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, brokers, and legal counsel
Maintain audit readiness and represent the company at unemployment hearings and depositions
Monitor immigration and employment law changes and advise leadership on risk and strategy
Support bilingual document translation and compliance validation (English-Spanish)
Help ensure consistent, fair employment practices across the organization
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred
8+ years of experience in HR, legal compliance, or risk management
Minimum 5 years of experience in retail operations
Bilingual English/Spanish required
Strong expertise in workplace investigations and workers’ compensation
Working knowledge of immigration policies and California employment law
Experience with HCM systems and Microsoft Office 365
Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
Ability to work flexible hours as needed in a retail environment (including nights, weekends, and holidays)
Compensation & Details
Annual salary: $135,000 – $180,000 (depending on experience and skills)
Full-time, Exempt
100% onsite at the Southern California corporate office
Approximately 5% domestic travel
