Design Director

Humphreys & Partners Architects is seeking a Design Director. This is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing design excellence, strengthening design culture, and supporting strategic growth across the firm’s Architecture division. This role partners closely with architectural leadership to ensure alignment between design vision, client expectations, project execution, and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide design leadership and oversight across projects, pursuits, and studio teams
• Support client relationships, interviews, presentations, and pursuit strategies
• Collaborate with Regional Directors, Studio Directors, Studio Leads, and project teams to reinforce design quality, consistency, and project performance
• Support firm profitability by promoting efficient, practical, and deliverable design solutions aligned with project budgets, schedules, and client objectives
• Mentor design staff, fostering professional growth and building the firm’s next generation of design talent
• Contribute to the evolution of the firm’s design workflow, including adoption of emerging tools and technologies
• Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and within professional organizations
• Contribute to strategic planning, recruiting efforts, and firmwide leadership initiatives

Qualifications:

• Professional degree in architecture or related design discipline
• Licensed Architect with 10+ years of experience in multifamily architecture design
• Experience supporting client relationships, project leadership, and business development initiatives
• Ability to lead design efforts while balancing operational and business objectives
• Advanced graphic and verbal presentation skills
• Experience mentoring design staff and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
• Professional engagement within industry organizations is preferred

Reporting Relationships:

• Reports to the Chief Architecture Officer
• Assigned design staff within areas of responsibility report directly or indirectly to the Design Director
• Collaborates with regional and local leadership for staff positioned in other offices
