Position Summary

The Criminal Researcher is responsible for conducting accurate and thorough criminal record searches to support pre-employment background screening services. This role involves reviewing court records, public records, and other authorized sources to verify criminal history information while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities

·        Conduct criminal record research and motor vehicle records using county, state, federal, and other approved databases.

·        Review court records and public documents to identify and verify criminal history information.

·        Accurately enter, update, and maintain research findings in the background screening system.

·        Analyze records to ensure correct subject identification and prevent false matches.

·        Follow company procedures and quality standards to ensure accuracy and turnaround time goals are met.

·        Communicate with courts, law enforcement agencies, and other record custodians as necessary.

·        Ensure compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), state regulations, and company policies.

·        Resolve discrepancies and perform additional research when records are incomplete or unclear.

·        Maintain confidentiality of sensitive personal and criminal record information.

·        Support quality assurance initiatives and participate in process improvement efforts.

·        Support other areas of verification and research to include but not limited to professional licensure, education and employment, sanctions, and criminal rechecks.


Required Qualifications

·        High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.

·        Experience in background screening, criminal records research, legal support, or related field preferred.

·        Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

·        Excellent analytical and investigative skills.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and data entry systems. Utilization of the Accio background screening platform is a plus.

·        Ability to interpret court documents and legal terminology.

·        Strong organizational and time-management skills.

·        Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications

·        Knowledge of court systems and criminal record research processes.

·        Must hold current Private Investigator license

·        Familiarity with FCRA and background screening industry standards.

·        Previous experience with background screening platforms and public records databases.

·        Must complete all areas of Criminal Research Training


Essential Functions

• Must be able to work onsite in an office environment.

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, speak and hear for prolonged periods.

• Must be able to use a computer, telephone and standard office equipment.
