The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing building systems and maintenance operations for Goldenrod Services’ property assets in the Omaha area. This hands-on leadership role requires strong technical expertise across building systems, a proactive approach to facility performance, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Facilities, the Chief Engineer leads the maintenance, repair, and optimization of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life-safety systems across assigned properties. This role ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements while driving efficiency, reliability, sustainability, and cost-effective operations. The Chief Engineer also supervises maintenance staff, manages vendors, and plays a key role in long-term asset performance and capital planning.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate maintenance, repair, and operational activities for all building systems
Develop, implement, and manage preventive maintenance programs to maximize system reliability and asset life
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes, safety regulations, and inspections
Lead, mentor, and evaluate engineering and maintenance staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Monitor and optimize building automation and energy management systems to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs
Manage vendor and contractor relationships to ensure quality workmanship, safety compliance, and cost control
Respond to emergency maintenance issues and develop effective response and contingency plans
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, inspections, and compliance documentation
Assist with annual budget preparation, forecasting, and capital project planning
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 7 years of experience operating and maintaining commercial building systems, including chillers, pumps, fire/life-safety systems, building management systems, and related equipment
Experience with Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Construction experience, including knowledge of construction processes and the ability to read and interpret blueprints
Preferred Experience & Certifications
Technical certifications in specialty disciplines such as HVAC, controls, electrical, or related trades
EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification
Formal training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building construction systems
