Thanks to a grant from Weyerhaeuser’s Montana Giving Fund, the Columbia Falls Community Market now has a permanent aluminum recycling trailer, making it easy for community members to recycle and give back to their community, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The recycling program goes back to 2023 when it was organized by a conservation crew from Columbia Falls High School. A relocation disrupted that initial version, but the program was relaunched last year. “If it wasn’t for Weyerhaeuser’s grant, we wouldn’t have had the funding to acquire the trailer and take our recycling program to the next level,” says Melissa Ellis, executive director of the Columbia Falls Community Market. Proceeds from recycling help fund local nonprofits — supporting a variety of needs from trail maintenance to local volunteer fire departments.

A group of high school students spent four weeks inside our McComb lumber mill in Magnolia, Mississippi, earning industry certifications, exploring every department and discovering career possibilities they hadn’t considered before. The opportunity came through a partnership between Weyerhaeuser and Southwest Mississippi Community College. Students first completed a Basics in Manufacturing certification program during the school year, then applied what they learned through the summer internship, building workplace skills that will serve them wherever their careers lead. “I’m thrilled with the program’s success,” says April Pittman, our senior HR business manager for the Gulf South. “Several students demonstrated exceptional leadership during teamwork and communications challenges, and they all actively engaged in every exercise. Three students were hired as summer help, and we’re hopeful they’ll ultimately transition into full-time employees." #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Erin Olson laces up her hockey skates for Team Weyerhaeuser in her free time. But in her day job in Montana as a Wood Products IT business relationship manager, you'll find her in the middle of complex human and technological networks that help keep our work running smoothly. Erin's career started when she took a summer job at the plywood mill we now own in Kalispell, Montana. She shares deep family connections to the industry: her grandpa, father and two brothers worked across multiple Montana mills, and her husband Greg has worked for Weyerhaeuser for the past seven years. Erin covered roles in human resources and accounts payable before an IT leader informed her of a job opening in the department. She jumped at the chance. "I don't remember if I even knew how to spell IT then, but I said yes," Erin says. "That led to a 19-year career in IT." Erin's advice for others: Learn the business, get to know your coworkers, be curious and advocate for yourself. "If given a chance to do something, say yes, whether it's to tour a plant, sit in on an operations call or have dinner with someone outside your business. Our employees are our greatest teachers." #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Three of our Timberlands offices — in Meridian, Mississippi; Thomasville, Alabama; and Columbus, Mississippi — are pooling their volunteer efforts through a joint community outreach team to have a greater regional impact. They started with a very successful canned food drive that collected 1,929 cans, which were donated to Wesley House Community Center in Meridian. “By working as one team with shared goals, we can improve relationships, create alignment across the region and deliver stronger outcomes,” says Brett McCool, our region manager in Mississippi and Alabama. The canned food drive is one of several planned volunteer events this year, including two Special Olympics events and a Hunt with the Stars deer hunting event benefitting veterans and children with disabilities. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Building a trusted voluntary carbon market starts with developing high-integrity projects. At Weyerhaeuser, our Forest Carbon team has spent years refining our approach to ensure the credits we generate meet the highest standards of quality. Recently, our methods were independently validated by BeZero Carbon, a global credit ratings agency, through an evaluation of our first three forest carbon projects in the U.S. South. We're pleased to share that all three projects received a BeZero Carbon Rating of ‘A’ or higher, placing them among the best in their class. Read more about these projects and why we believe ratings play an increasingly important role for buyers in today’s VCM. https://lnkd.in/gN57jiSf #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

Congratulations to Jerry Goforth, who recently celebrated 50 years working at our lumber mill in Philadelphia, Mississippi. At the age of 21, Jerry was hired on the spot for $1.95 an hour. Five decades later, he now leads a strong, collaborative team as a saw filing manager. While he has seen many changes during his tenure, Jerry cites the evolution of safety practices at the mill as the most significant. Technological advancements have also dramatically transformed the mill over the years. When Jerry began, much of the work was done manually. Today, nearly everything is automated, reducing the physical demands of the job and enabling employees to work safer, longer careers. Jerry plans to retire this year. Though he says retirement is bittersweet, he wants to help his son with his business and travel with his wife. “I really value the friendships I’ve made here,” Jerry says. “Weyerhaeuser has definitely made me a better person over the years. I’ve had to challenge myself in a lot of different roles with the company, which has given me more confidence.” #TheWeyerhaeuserWay

We’re excited to be in Nashville this week for Be Pro Be Proud's 10th anniversary National Conference. Be Pro Be Proud is an organization that aims to help students discover and pursue careers in the skilled trades, and it operates across the U.S. South, recently expanding to Florida. In the past year, we’ve had the privilege of participating in their tour stops and mobile workshops at schools and even hosted their leadership team for a tour of our timberlands in Sheridan, Arkansas – all part of our ongoing commitment to supporting workforce development and introducing the next generation to career opportunities in the forest products industry. #TheWeyerhaeuserWay #beprobeproud #nationalconference
