  • Dover, Pa. resident Ken Moritz navigated life with a heart condition that slowly made everyday more difficult. "It was frustrating,” Ken said. " I wanted to keep helping with the things that needed done at home but my body was pushing back." Doctors determined that Ken was experiencing a significant mitral valve leak, a condition affecting one of the heart's key valves. Traditional solutions presented challenges and because of the complexity of his condition, Ken was not an ideal candidate for open heart surgery. Instead, the team at WellSpan York Hospital offered him something that, until recently, was unavailable to patients in Pennsylvania. On July 29, Ken became the first patient at WellSpan York Hospital, and the first patient in Pennsylvania, to undergo a commercial transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). • Sometimes comfort comes with four paws and a wagging tail. "A visit from Happy can brighten anyone's day. If you're having a difficult one, a "happy" dog has a way of making it better," shared Elizabeth DiCampli, certified nurse midwife and volunteer at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital. Across WellSpan, our pet therapy volunteers and their sweet pups are bringing smiles, connection and moments of joy to patients, families and team members when they need it most.     Get to know Happy, his furry friends making days brighter across Central Pennsylvania and the volunteers who make it all possible: https://lnkd.in/gQ-AfEUF

  • Innovation in health care matters most when it improves outcomes for our patients.    The team at WellSpan York Hospital recently reached two significant milestones by performing WellSpan's first thoracoabdominal branch endoprosthesis procedure and its first robotic vascular surgery.    These minimally invasive approaches offer new options for patients with complex vascular conditions, supporting faster recovery while allowing many patients to receive specialized care closer to home.    The achievements come alongside another important accomplishment: designation as a Verified Inpatient Vascular Center through the American College of Surgeons. This recognition reflects the expertise and collaboration of vascular surgeons, advanced practice professionals, nurses, technologists and support teams working together at WellSpan to deliver high-quality care.    Together, these milestones demonstrate WellSpan's continued investment in innovation, advanced technology and specialized care that meets the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

  • We’re thrilled to share that WellSpan is joining forces with Aidoc and a cohort of the nation's leading health systems to launch the Diagnostic AI Consortium!    This is the first collaborative effort of its kind, bringing health systems together to co-design, test, refine and advance diagnostic AI directly within clinical workflows. Guided by the everyday experiences of frontline physicians and care teams, we are establishing the industry gold standard for safe, effective and scalable AI.    Together, the Consortium systems care for nearly 20 million patients a year, creating the clinical scale needed to move the entire industry forward. We’re proud to stand alongside Aidoc and our fellow founding partners to build the future of clinical AI from the ground up.    Read more about the announcement here:  https://lnkd.in/eB_9vnd2

  • Recovery is about more than regaining physical function. It's about helping people return to the activities, relationships and experiences that make life meaningful.     After undergoing a below-the-knee amputation, Bob Aims completed rehabilitation at WellSpan Surgery & Rehabilitation Hospital and embraced new opportunities to stay active, support others and remain engaged in his community. He participated in one of our recent adaptive clinics, which happened to give an opportunity for Bob to reunite with one of his passions: archery. This activity showcased how rehabilitation extends beyond the hospital setting, creating opportunities for participants to reconnect with lifelong passions, explore new activities and support one another.     Read Bob's story and learn how WellSpan's comprehensive rehabilitation programs help patients continue building meaningful lives after recovery: https://lnkd.in/dC-WAhSR

  • Community connection plays an important role in supporting health and well-being. WellSpan team members recently attended the Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo, engaging with community members and highlighting the benefits of staying active and connected through outdoor opportunities. Events like this help make health more accessible by meeting people where they are and encouraging simple, everyday habits that contribute to long-term wellness. This approach reflects our broader commitment to improving health through prevention, education and strong community partnerships.

  • Supporting healthy communities extends far beyond clinical settings. This past weekend, WellSpan's Sports Medicine team provided medical coverage during the Special Olympics golf tournament at Penn National Golf Resort, helping ensure athletes had access to care and support throughout the event. The tournament brought together athletes, coaches, volunteers and community partners in a celebration of competition, inclusion and achievement. We were honored to play a role in helping participants safely enjoy the experience while pursuing their goals on the course. Partnerships and community events like these reflect our commitment to improving health and supporting opportunities that help people stay active, engaged and connected. Thank you to the organizers, volunteers and every athlete who made the weekend memorable.
