Last week, Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Division of HII, and Breaux Brothers Enterprises Inc, HII's partner in the production of ROMULUS 151 vessels, hosted reporters for an inside look at their operations and active construction activities. During the visit reporters had direct access to Ingalls and Mission Technologies, a division of HII, leadership to ask questions about HII’s manned and unmanned shipbuilding efforts, as well as initiatives to strengthen America’s industrial base. Check out the CavasShips podcast below to hear the impressions from these reporters and how Gulf Coast shipbuilders are helping shape the conversation around capacity, innovation and future demand. On the latest CavasShips Podcast - 11 shipyards in 5 days. From Louisiana to Mississippi to Alabama we toured yards building icebreakers, unmanned vessels, Coast Guard cutters, submarines, destroyers and amphibs. We welcomed South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster (South Carolina Governor's Office) to Newport News Shipbuilding Charleston Operations Wednesday. Under HII's ownership, the site in Goose Creek has increased production by more than 50% as it continues to ramp up in support of US Navy programs. We appreciate Gov. McMaster’s support as we continue to work with our partners at the local, state and federal levels on important workforce development initiatives for South Carolina’s rapidly growing maritime ecosystem.

The US Navy has a problem–it only has one dock on the West Coast that can service Nimitz-class aircraft carriers... and there are exactly zero that can service Ford-class carriers, which are the newest class being built right now by Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII. Host Ryan Robertson explains the Navy's plan to build a new multi-mission dry dock. 🎥Watch now on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/esaTdDGT Mission Critical Episode 15 | Here’s why America's shipyards need robot welders Sponsored by HII

America's shipbuilding challenge isn't just about designing the next great warship—it's about having enough skilled workers to build it. The U.S. is projected to face a shortage of roughly 320,000 welders by 2029, creating a major bottleneck for both the defense industrial base and American manufacturing. In this episode of #MissionCritical, host Ryan Robertson explores how HII's High-Yield Production Robotics (HYPR) program is working with companies like Path Robotics and GrayMatter Robotics to develop AI-powered manufacturing solutions that can increase production without replacing skilled tradespeople. The episode includes an inside look at autonomous welding systems, advanced robotic sensors, and one of the most unique technologies in manufacturing today: ROVE, a robotic welding dog designed to perform work where traditional robotic arms can't reach. The takeaway is clear: the future of shipbuilding isn't human or machine—it's human and machine. As the US Navy works to expand the fleet, innovations in manufacturing may prove just as important as innovations at sea. Watch the full episode and join the conversation.
