Every day, people around the world are helping rebuild communities affected by conflict and crisis. For 20 years, the UN Peacebuilding Fund has supported local changemakers working to prevent violence, address the root causes of instability — including poverty, inequality, injustice and more — and build more peaceful societies. His Holiness Pope Leo XIV visited the World Food Programme headquarters in Rome on Monday. His visit was a powerful moment of solidarity with people facing hunger around the world. His Holiness paid tribute to our colleagues who work tirelessly to help people in need, and laid a wreath at a memorial wall honoring the 171 WFP staff who have lost their lives in service of others. Pope Leo XIV’s visit comes at a time of acute strain on the humanitarian system: in 2025, an estimated 266 million people across 47 countries were acutely food insecure, while funding for food assistance has dropped sharply.

“When women are safe, nations are more peaceful.” In a briefing to the Security Council, UN Women chief Sima Bahous stressed that women can and must play a key role in the pursuit of peace in conflict areas around the world. “Peace is more likely to be reached faster — and to last longer — when women are at the table,” she said, adding that gender equality and women’s empowerment are among the most powerful approaches to creating a safer future for all people.

Giraffes play a vital role in their ecosystems. By feeding on hard-to-reach leaves, they open up space for other animals to access food and help maintain the balance of plant and animal life. But habitat loss and poaching continue to threaten these valuable species. Sunday’s World Giraffe Day is a reminder of the importance to protect them. — via UN Environment Programme

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word “yoga” comes from Sanskrit and means “to join” or “to unite,” symbolizing the connection between body and mind. In times of stress and difficulty, yoga can be a powerful tool to manage anxiety, support physical well-being, and promote mindfulness and relaxation at every stage of life. On Sunday’s Yoga Day, join us in celebrating the power of yoga to help overcome challenges and cultivate inner peace. Whether you’re a yoga lover, a beginner or simply curious, share your experience or thoughts with us in the comments below.

As conflicts escalate across the world, an alarming number of girls and boys are falling victim to rape, sexual slavery, forced marriage and trafficking. On the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, UN Secretary-General António Guterres calls for an end to this abhorrent crime, urging action to protect children, ensure accountability and prevent further suffering. “Children must never be targets in war. Protecting them is a legal and moral imperative for every combatant, and every country.” https://lnkd.in/eFk-nc-h
