About us
UN Women is the United Nations agency for women's rights, gender equality and women's empowerment. A global champion ForAllWomenAndGirls, UN Women was established to accelerate progress on meeting their needs worldwide. UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality, and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to implement these standards. It stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas: increasing women’s leadership and participation; ending violence against women; engaging women in all aspects of peace and security processes; enhancing women’s economic empowerment; and making gender equality central to national development planning and budgeting. UN Women also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s work in advancing gender equality.

Only once or twice a month. For half of Afghan women, that's how often they leave their homes. The exclusion of women and girls in #Afghanistan from public life must NEVER be normalized. Five years since the Taliban takeover, learn how the systematic dismantling of women's and girls' rights has reshaped every aspect of their lives in Afghanistan. 🔗 Our fact sheet: https://lnkd.in/eMRqV-nR

#DidYouKnow: Girls in #Afghanistan are still banned from attending high school. The impact of keeping girls out of classrooms doesn't end with them—it also holds back their communities and the country’s development. Education should be #ForAllWomenAndGirls. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/deQAA3fH

When gangs take over communities, women-led organizations help survivors find safety. Across #Haiti, women like Roselene Pierre are on call 24/7, providing shelter, psychological support and other critical services to women and children fleeing violence. But as needs rise, funding is running out. 1 in 3 women's organizations could close within the next year. Read Roselene's story: https://lnkd.in/evs_VCGP / at the link in our bio. #ForAllWomenAndGirls

⚠️ Findings from a new UN Women report: 7 in 10 women in #Afghanistan describe their mental health as ‘bad’ or ‘very bad’. Five years since the Taliban takeover, the mental health toll for women and girls is undeniable. We need more support for Afghan women's mental health, not more isolation. 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eHiU5X67

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake has devastated communities across western #Colombia, and the toll continues to rise. Disasters don’t affect everyone equally. Displacement, disrupted health services and crowded shelters can heighten risks for women and girls — from limited access to reproductive health care to increased exposure to violence. UN Women is working alongside the Government of Colombia and partners to help ensure the needs, rights and safety of women and girls are addressed in emergency response and recovery efforts. #ForAllWomenAndGirls

Care work—paid and unpaid—keeps the world running. It's in 🍲 meals prepared, 🚸 children walked to school, 👵🏼 aging parents supported, 🧺 laundry washed and folded, and 📝 countless invisible tasks that make daily life possible. Yet, this work remains undervalued and unequally distributed. As a matter of human rights, we must #ShareTheCare. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eENqeWtH
