The Molly Blank Center for Opera and the Arts project continues to make strong progress as the site prepares to enter its next major phase of construction! With interior demolition nearing completion, site grading and storm drainage well underway, and ground improvements complete, our team is just weeks away from beginning concrete work. From there, the project will continue taking shape as CMU walls, structural steel, and precast construction follow. We're excited to keep the momentum going and look forward to sharing more progress along the way! Shanghai Grand Opera House — Snøhetta's most ambitious cultural landmark is almost ready 🏛️✨ Commissioned in 2019 and expected to open in the second half of 2026, the Shanghai Grand Opera House by Snøhetta is taking final shape along the Huangpu River — and it is set to become one of the most significant performing arts venues in the world. Designed by a consortium led by Snøhetta alongside ECADI, Theatre Projects, and Nagata Acoustics, the building brings together three distinct performance spaces under a single iconic roof: a 2,000-seat main auditorium for opera and large-scale productions, engineered with Nagata Acoustics for world-class sound performance; a 1,200-seat secondary hall for more intimate programming; and a flexible 1,000-seat theater with fully adaptable staging and seating configurations — together capable of hosting everything from traditional Chinese opera and symphonic performances to experimental and contemporary productions. For Snøhetta, the project represents the culmination of decades of expertise in performing arts architecture — drawing directly on the experience of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, the Busan Opera House in South Korea, the Isabel Bader Centre in Canada, and the Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers renovation in Paris. At its core, the design is driven by a commitment to public ownership — a building conceived not as an exclusive cultural institution but as a destination for the people of Shanghai and beyond, where the river, the city, and the arts converge in a single shared space. A first look at the finished College of Coastal Georgia Center for the Arts, captured beautifully by Frank Fortune of The Fortune Image. Located on CCG’s Brunswick campus, this new 32,328-square-foot facility was designed to serve as a cultural hub for students, Glynn County Schools and the greater coastal Georgia community. Anchored by a 1,000-seat state-of-the-art performance auditorium, the Center supports everything from music and dance performances to lectures, theatrical productions, community gatherings and special events. Hussey Gay Bell is proud to have provided architecture, interior design, civil engineering, structural engineering, permitting, construction phase services and close-out for this impactful project. From early planning through final delivery, our team brought thoughtful design, technical coordination and a shared commitment to creating a space that will serve the arts, education and community engagement for years to come.
