Looking back at WAIC last month, one of the biggest differences I noticed compared to previous years was the shift from AI demos to real commercial deployment. Instead of asking what AI could do, companies were showcasing what AI is already doing—humanoid robots in factories, embodied AI in logistics and retail, autonomous inspection, warehouse automation, and increasingly capable multimodal AI systems. The biggest takeaway for me is that the winners won’t just have the best models. They’ll have the best data, the best integration into existing workflows, and the ability to deliver measurable business outcomes. It was also great reconnecting with existing partners, meeting new technology providers, and exchanging ideas on where Physical AI is heading next. We’re taking many of these insights back to MR. ROBOT as we continue building practical AI and robotics solutions for retail, manufacturing, and logistics. Behind every match is a real test of balance, perception, whole-body control, durability, and real-time decision-making—the same capabilities needed for humanoids to work in factories, warehouses, and everyday environments. I have seen companies invest in robots with high expectations, then regret the decision just a few months later. Most of the time, the robot is not the real problem. The issue is that the business was never clear about what it needed the robot to solve, how the team would work with it, or what success should look like. That is why I believe every robot investment should begin with three things: the problem, the people and the payback. People often ask me why robots are designed in human form. My view is quite simple. Most production environments were built around people. From workstation heights to tools and operating positions, everything is designed for human movement and reach. This gives humanoid robots a practical advantage, as they can fit into existing spaces more easily with fewer changes to the production floor. But that does not mean every robot should look human. The future will likely include robotic arms, semi humanoid robots, full humanoids and many other forms.
